Something big is happening over in Disneyland. The park is celebrating its 70th Anniversary, and a huge celebration with special decor, entertainment, merchandise, food, attractions, and more is happening RIGHT NOW.

But there’s a big problem for those who want to visit Disneyland for this big celebration — a LOT of rides are closed at the moment. Now, ride closures happen all the time because rides need maintenance every once in a while. But the number of rides in Disneyland that are closed right now is…well, it’s a lot for a park that’s trying to get people to visit it during a big event. Let’s break all these ride closures down.

Let’s talk about one of our favorite types of Disney guests: the Disney Grandma. You know who we’re talking about. She’s got the stroller game down, snacks packed in gallon bags, and a pin lanyard that’s older than half the people in line at Pirates of the Caribbean. And now? The Marvel-themed land brought tons of attractions, dining, and entertainment to explore, but soon, there will be even MORE exciting things to check out! The PROBLEM with the Months-Long Closures of 2 Rides at Magic Kingdom

While refurbishments and closures have always been part of Walt Disney World, the current state of temporary and permanent closures at the Magic Kingdom is affecting the park experience at an unprecedented level.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Over the past several months, the popular Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin attractions have both closed for refurbishment. Furthermore, opening day stalwarts, the Rivers of America (including the Liberty Belle Riverboat) and Tom Sawyer Island, closed permanently to make way for the construction of the upcoming Piston Peak area. This has led to issues in both Frontierland and Tomorrowland.
