Character dining might be one of the most magical ways to meet your favorite Disney characters all at the comfort of your own table.
We’re heading to 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for breakfast, and we’re taking you along with us. Is the food and characters worth the price? Let’s find out.
Atmosphere
Located in the Grand Floridian, 1900 Park Fare brings a similar aesthetic into the restaurant. There are nods to the early 20th century with carousel theming, whimsical decor, and impressionist-style Disney artwork. Make sure you look up when you enter the dining room to see gorgeous portraits of Disney characters and check out the turn-of-the-century organ from France that’s been at the Grand Floridian since 1988. It’s called Big Bertha.
We’ve dined across all of the character meals at Disney World, and while we’re used to buffets, we thought this was one of our more relaxing character experiences. Other restaurants left us feeling rushed and stressed, but 1900 Park Fare struck the perfect balance between food and characters. Once you sit down, we recommend ordering your drinks and then getting food. We found the characters came very close together as they do certain sections of the restaurant at a time, so once you feel all four, go up for seconds and get ready for a small show they do in the dining hall. Then your server will ring your check, and you’re on your way.
Some character dining experiences allow you to meet characters more than once, but 1900 Park Fare has more of a system to get you through everyone once, but we felt like the characters spent a good amount of time with us, which felt longer than other dining experiences.
Menu
1900 Park Fare is a buffet restaurant, so you’ll pay one price for the food and drinks like soda products and coffee, but you can add on specialty cocktails and hot beverages. It costs $58 per adult and $37 per child (ages 3 to 9), plus tax and gratuity.
The breakfast menu is packed with pastries like doughnuts and muffins as well as breakfast staples like eggs, biscuits, bacon, omelets, and a ham carving station. They also have croissant breakfast pizza and some plant-based and gluten-free options. Don’t forget to try the famous Grand Floridian Strawberry Soup!
Characters
While the characters can occasionally change without notice, you can generally meet Aladdin…
…Cinderella…
…Mirabel…
…and Princess Tiana. These are all characters known for making dreams come true and for wishing. Characters will come up to you at your table, but don’t worry if you’re getting food at the buffet and miss anyone. Cast Members are great at making sure every character visits every table, but you can also remind your server if you’re getting ready to leave and haven’t met someone.
You also receive a wish card so you can make a wish and participate in the Wish Ceremony. It has the characters’ signatures on the back!
Eats
Heading to the buffet, we started with the Cheesy Grits, and oh my gosh, we started off right. These were phenomenal, but cheesy and buttery, with the perfect texture that made our Southern hearts flutter. They weren’t dry in the slightest, and we devoured the entire bowl with zero regrets.
We grabbed the Carved Ham, and this wasn’t quite our favorite. It was fairly dry, tough, and hard to cut through, but it was salty and savory, and it still had a great flavor. The texture just wasn’t our favorite.
Once we saw the chefs put out a fresh batch, we piled a few Tator Tots on our plates. No, these were not insanely unique, but they were crispy, hot, and fresh, and honestly, sometimes you just need something you know you’re going to love. In addition to those potatoes, we also got the Cheesy Potato Casserole. For us, this is a staple of Disney buffets, and we hardly skip on it. They’re creamy and salty with the perfect balance of cheese and potato. You just have to have them!
For a sweeter option, we grabbed a Double-Chocolate Muffin, which we think will be super popular amongst the kids. It was a smidge on the dry side but had a great chocolate flavor and reminded us of a chocolate muffin with a chocolate chip cookie on top, which is pretty fun.
We also got the Cinnamon Pull-apart Bread, which was truly heavenly. It pulled apart easily, and the flavors were spot on. We loved the stickiness and sweetness of the icing and how the bread was fluffy and light but not overly sweet, so it balanced well with the glaze.
Finally, we ended with the Grand Floridian Strawberry Soup, which we always say you need to try at least once. We added whipped cream on top and love how light and fresh the soup was. It’s served cold and has a moderate strawberry flavor that’s not too tangy or tart but just the right balance.
Drinks
For a fun drink, we had the So Many Wishes for $6.79, which is a non-alcoholic drink made with Pomegranate Green Tea, Hibiscus, Lemon, and a dash of Star Dust.
While we enjoyed the drink, we’re not sure we really tasted all of the flavors promised. It tasted more like pink lemonade, with a little extra fruit flavor that was fairly generic. We think kids (and adults!) who love lemonade, especially pink lemonade, will really enjoy this special treat.
We also wanted to mention that on the menu, there are Non-Alcoholic Specialty Offerings and Zero-Proof Cocktails. The non-alcoholic beverages do not have any alcohol in them, but the zero-proof cocktails use zero-proof spirits, which might have other alcohols in them with lower alcohol content. We recommend asking your server more about it if you have any questions.
Nosh or Not
Go ahead and book that reservation for 1900 Park Fare if…
- You’re looking to meet more unique characters beyond the traditional princesses or Mickey and friends
- You like familiar breakfast items mixed in with some more unique ones
- You want a nice breakfast before heading to Magic Kingdom, or you are staying at the Grand Floridian
You might want to skip this spot if…
- Character dining and the idea of being interrupted while you’re eating stressed you out (hey, we get it!)
- You prefer to be served at your table rather than serving yourself at a buffet.
- You’re looking for more of a low-cost option that’s faster and inside the parks
Overall
We love 1900 Park Fare! The character experiences are so fun and unique, and we loved not feeling rushed. The food was delicious, with common breakfast staples and some fun, unique dishes to try. Sometimes, with restaurants at resorts, we only recommend them if you’re staying at the resort, but since this is a quick monorail ride from Magic Kingdom, we definitely think you should add this to your list. It’s a great meal paired with your favorite characters — what’s not to love?
