We need to talk about one of the internet’s favorite hobbies: seeing a theme park rumor, slapping Mickey ears on it, and sending it galloping across social media like it just stole a churro.
Because yes, something big is happening in Frisco, Texas. No, that does not mean Disney is suddenly packing up a castle, tossing Cinderella into a moving van, and heading for the Lone Star State. At least not based on anything Disney has officially announced.
Right now, Disney’s confirmed future resort development is pointed elsewhere, including its newly announced theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, which Disney has described as its seventh theme park destination. So if you’ve seen whispers that “Disney is coming to Texas,” that rumor is wearing somebody else’s nametag.
Which popular brand made the announcement? Let’s take a closer look!
Is Disney Coming to Texas?
To put it simply…nope. Honestly, this is a rumor that has spread multiple times in the Disney space, so we wanted to debunk the rumor.
Disney is not planning to make a move to Texas or to build a theme park in Texas anytime soon.
Universal Quietly Dropped a BIG Update on Its New Texas Theme Park
What Theme Park Is Coming to Texas?
The project headed to Frisco is Universal Kids Resort, not a Disney park. Universal first announced the concept for Frisco as a park designed specifically for families with young children, and the company has since revealed themed lands based on franchises like Shrek, Jurassic World, SpongeBob SquarePants, Minions, Trolls, and Puss in Boots. In other words, this is very much Universal’s rodeo.
And honestly? It makes sense that people got wires crossed. When a major theme park company announces a brand-new resort in Texas, the Disney rumor mill starts foaming at the mouth like it just spotted a mystery permit. But this one belongs squarely to Universal, which has framed the Frisco project as a first-of-its-kind concept aimed at younger kids and their families.
So, to put it plainly: Texas is getting a new theme park resort. It’s just not getting a Disney one.

Will Disney Ever Leave Florida?
This rumor pops up every so often too, because apparently, the internet cannot rest unless it’s inventing a dramatic relocation plotline for Cinderella Castle.
But Walt Disney World is not the sort of thing you bubble-wrap and move over a long weekend. Disney’s Florida resort includes four theme parks, two water parks, Disney Springs, and a massive collection of resort hotels and infrastructure. That is less “business pivot” and more “entire ecosystem.”
That doesn’t mean Disney and Florida won’t have tense moments, corporate shakeups, or the occasional public drama spiral. It does mean that Walt Disney World is a deeply established vacation destination with layers upon layers of physical investment. So whenever the “Disney is leaving Florida!” rumor comes roaring back like a fireworks finale no one asked for, it’s worth taking a beat and remembering that this is not a lemonade stand. This is a vacation empire with roads, hotels, transportation networks, and decades of built-in guest demand.
So, Where Does Disney Have Theme Parks?
If Disney isn’t headed to Texas, where does it already have a foothold? Quite a few places, actually.
Disney has 12 theme parks across six resort destinations around the world, and with the Abu Dhabi resort now officially announced, that roster is set to grow again.
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida
In Florida, you’ve got the four-park behemoth: Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. That’s the nostalgia machine, the food-and-festival machine, the Star Wars machine, and the “how is this park somehow both a zoo and a spiritual experience?” machine.
This nostalgic park features real classics such as Carousel of Progress.

3. EPCOT
There are some fun additions like Space 220 and the super popular thrills of Guardians of the Galaxy: Comic Rewind.
The most important addition at Disney’s Hollywood Studios remains Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and its mega E-Ticket Rise of the Resistance.

Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California
In California, the Disneyland Resort is home to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, the original one-two punch that still manages to feel both classic and chaos-adjacent depending on how many people are rope-dropping Radiator Springs Racers. Disney has also been pushing future growth there through DisneylandForward, which we’ll get to in a minute.

Disneyland Paris
Over in France, Disneyland Paris now has Disneyland Park and the reimagined Disney Adventure World, which officially replaces the old Walt Disney Studios Park name. That second gate has entered a whole new era with World of Frozen, Adventure Way, and additional long-term expansion plans already in the pipeline. So yes, this is one of the places where the nomenclature really matters now.
7. Disneyland
It has arguably the best Disney castle in the world (complete with a dragon in the dungeons!).
Now I NEED To Go to Disneyland Paris — Here’s WHY
8. Disney Adventure World
This is park got a fancy makeover with beautiful new areas like the World of Frozen and Adventure Way. And not only does it come with new attractions, but it’s loaded with some amazing new restaurants, including a princess dining experience with some of our favorite Disney royalty in more of their casual outfits.

Hong Kong
Then there’s Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, which may be the smallest of Disney’s Asian resorts, but absolutely refuses to be overlooked. It’s home to Hong Kong Disneyland Park, where guests can visit the already-open World of Frozen and ride fan-favorite attractions like Mystic Manor, which has developed a cult following for being wonderfully weird in the best possible Disney way. It’s the kind of resort that feels a little more compact and manageable, but still packs plenty of personality into the park day.

Shanghai, China
Then you’ve got Shanghai Disney Resort, home to Shanghai Disneyland, which leans big, bold, and very “go ahead, make the castle extra.” The resort’s official materials highlight eight themed lands, and that lineup now includes the world’s first Zootopia land, along with icons like Enchanted Storybook Castle. And Zootopia officially opened in December 2023, so it can leave the “coming soon” folder, stop lurking in development purgatory, and start taking a well-earned victory lap

Tokyo, Japan
And then there’s Tokyo Disney Resort, the overachiever of the group, with Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea making up one of the most beloved Disney resort duos anywhere in the world. Tokyo DisneySea already had a reputation for being the park Disney adults speak about in hushed, reverent tones, and that reputation only got louder with the arrival of Fantasy Springs, the new port inspired by Frozen, Peter Pan, and Tangled, plus the adjacent Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel. Basically, if Disney parks had a valedictorian, Tokyo would be up there giving the speech in immaculate tailoring.

What’s in the Works for Disney?
Even if Disney isn’t planting a flag in Texas right now, that does not mean the company is sitting still. Quite the opposite. Disney has repeatedly said it has more projects underway globally than at any other point in its history, and once you look around the portfolio, that checks out.
Housing Community
One of the more unusual Disney-adjacent projects is Storyliving by Disney, which is basically Disney asking, “What if neighborhood planning had a little more Imagineering sparkle?”
The first community, Cotino, is in California’s Coachella Valley, and homes are already on sale there. Disney has also launched Asteria, the second Storyliving by Disney community, near Pittsboro, North Carolina, just outside the Raleigh area. So no, these are not theme parks. But they are part of Disney’s broader expansion beyond traditional park gates. It’s less “buy a ticket and ride Space Mountain” and more “live somewhere with a lifestyle brand so polished it probably has better mood lighting than your favorite hotel lobby.”

Park Projects
This is where the Disney to-do list starts looking a little caffeinated.
At Walt Disney World, Disney has signaled major growth across multiple parks, including Monsters, Inc. plans for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Tropical Americas, also known as Pueblo Esperanza, for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history, with both a Cars area tied to Piston Peak National Park and a long-awaited Villains land in the works. That is not a tiny sprinkle of change. That is Disney throwing a whole shovel of pixie dust at the blueprint table.
At Disneyland Resort, DisneylandForward was approved by the Anaheim City Council in 2024. The important thing to understand here is that DisneylandForward is not one single ride or land. It’s a long-range development framework that gives Disney more flexibility to integrate future attractions, entertainment, shopping, dining, and hotels across its Anaheim property. In other words, it’s the giant “clear the runway” move before the actual announcements start dropping.
At Disneyland Paris, the transformation is no longer theoretical. Disney Adventure World is the new identity of the second park, and World of Frozen and Adventure Way are part of that next chapter, along with future plans for a Lion King area. That’s a pretty hefty glow-up for a park that spent years being the underdog in the family photo.
And then there’s the truly global headline: Disney and Miral have already announced a Disney theme park resort on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. So while Texas is not on Disney’s official park map right now, Disney is expanding, just in a different direction than rumor merchants were hoping.
Hotel Renovations
If you’ve ever followed Disney hotel news for more than six minutes, you already know that refurbishments are basically a permanent weather pattern.
Disney is constantly refreshing rooms, pools, dining spaces, and common areas across its resort portfolio, and that’s part of the normal cycle of keeping those hotels competitive and guest-ready. The bigger long-term hotel headline is Disney Lakeshore Lodge, a new Disney Vacation Club resort that is projected to open in 2027. So yes, while some resorts are getting cosmetic touch-ups, Disney is also still growing the lodging side of the business in a meaningful way.

New Cruise ships
And then there’s Disney Cruise Line, which is out here collecting new ships like it’s trying to complete a nautical Infinity Gauntlet.
The Disney Adventure sailed its maiden voyage from Singapore on March 10, 2026, becoming Disney Cruise Line’s eighth ship and first in Asia. Before that, the Disney Destiny officially entered the fleet in late 2025. Disney has also rolled out the Disney Believe as an announced future ship, and the company says more additions are coming, with five additional ships launching between 2027 and 2031. That’s not a small expansion. That’s a full fleet glow-up

So…Is Disney Coming to Texas?
For now, no. The Texas project people are buzzing about is Universal Kids Resort, not a Disney theme park. Disney’s real expansion story is happening across its existing resorts, its cruise line, its residential community business, and now its newly announced future destination in Abu Dhabi.
Could Disney someday build another U.S. theme park outside Florida or California? In theory, sure. Stranger things have happened in the theme park universe. But as of right now, there is no official Disney announcement putting Texas on the castle map.
So if somebody corners you at brunch and says, “Did you hear Disney is moving to Texas?” you may now politely, confidently, and perhaps a little smugly reply: “Nope. Wrong park. Wrong mouse. Pass the pancakes.”

Disney should not allow a temporary governor in florida to have any impact, hold your own, you will outlast him and his hateful ways!
Thank you for not making me scroll through the entire article to find the answer to the post tag line. I sooooo appreciate that. I still scrolled through but to feel bated into scrolling through on different blogs all the time is so irritating. So thank you!
Disney Is too big to fail in Florida (and California). They will outlast any government that will come and go throughout the decades as they have always have done, and will continue do so.
Why on earth would Disney even remotely consider going to Texas, they are just as bad as Florida if not worse! Can you imagine razor wire everywhere you go?
MIchael Holland,
As a resident of Texas, I take offense to that. “Razor wire”? You mean “Barb wire”. And we are not bad. Yes we have westerners moving here making it like the state they just left but we are not bad so please watch what you say if you have never been or lived here.
But we don’t need or want a Disney park here. We have Six Flags, which is now in several other states but ours is the original. We don’t have any spots for it. We have several of the biggest cities in the country and no land. Even if the state approved it, citizens wouldn’t. It’s not because of Disney but because of taxes.
