A visit to Singapore could lead you to some incredible eats!
We recently traveled out to Singapore to sail with the Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship — the Disney Adventure –, and we were fortunate enough to do a little bit of exploring (and dining) on the mainland before setting sail. As such, we’re taking you on a little culinary tour of some of the notable dishes we tried in Singapore!
Let’s start with some hotel eats! We stayed at the Marina Bay Sands, and breakfast by the pool is a must!
We had dumplings, which were perfectly prepared and packed with plenty of filling. They weren’t too spicy, but they had a nice amount of heat. This was absolutely delicious!
We also tried an açai bowl — and we’re not joking around when we say this might have been one of the best we’ve ever had. It was super creamy, really refreshing, wonderfully fresh and juicy, and oh so memorable. The peanut butter added a nice thickness that really kind of tied the dish together and made it more filling. The dragonfruit was so purple and flavorful — something unlike anything we’ve ever had back in the States. We’re so happy we tried it!
We didn’t have a ton of time to explore, so of course we indulged in a little room service! We got two of the Japanese and Chinese breakfasts (full-service breakfast meals), and they were SO good! The sets came with a coffee of choice AND a juice of choice (we tried freshly squeezed watermelon juice). Each was savory, filling, and comforting (plus they were a great deal and could be split by two people)!
At Maxwell Hawker Center, the Hainanese chicken was absolutely incredible! It was actually recommended by Anthony Bourdain at one point on his show, so it’s a pretty popular dish that tourists love to try. The chicken won’t be familiar to a lot of American palates, but it was super juicy and tender. The rice was cooked perfectly — fluffy and filling. The sauce on top was savory and just coated in a really glossy flavor that we loved. If you ever make your way out to Singapore, you’ve gotta try this!
During our brief visit, we made sure to head over to Universal Studios Singapore, where we stopped by Super Hungry Food Stand in the Minions Land, and we tried a few things.
Stuart’s Japanese Curry Karaage was pretty good! The chicken was pretty chewy and needed more crunch, but it was flavorful and juicy. The curry was nice and spicy (not hot, just flavorful) with lots of veggies that were soft. The curry was aromatic, flavorful, and slightly sweet. We quite liked this!
The Unlucky Ducky Creamy Chicken Stew weirdly reminded us of chicken pot pie! It was creamy and familiar with lots of veggies and chicken. The chicken was also chewy, and we could see there being a texture issue for others. The little targets were edible (which was neat), but they were colder than we would’ve liked.
We also tried the Chili Crab Minion Mantous, and these buns were surprising. We expected them to have filling, but they didn’t! They were light and fluffy, similar to a bao bun but flatter. The crab dip on the side was similar to a sweet and spicy sauce with a subtle crab flavor that really came through in a nice way.
Over in Far Far Away (the Shrek land), we also tried the Shrek Waffle, which was SO tasty. It was just a sweet, vanilla waffle — but it was made fresh to order. It was hot, crispy, and soft on the inside. It also came with your choice of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream on the side (we went with Chunky Monkey).
And there you have it! Which of these dishes would you like to try? Let us know in the comments, and continue to follow us here at DFB for more fun food updates and reports from our travels around the world!
