If you’re looking for a little fun in the sun and water, you may be considering a visit to one of Disney World’s water parks. It’s water park fun with Disney theming…what’s not to love?
However, if you plan on visiting Typhoon Lagoon soon, which is themed around a typhoon that once destroyed a tropical paradise, you may find yourself out of luck. That’s because Typhoon Lagoon will be closing soon, and we wanted to make sure you’re reminded of that.
Typhoon Lagoon will be closing on February 15th, so if you have plans to visit a Disney World water park on or after that date, you’ll want to be aware of this closure. This is a temporary closure, typically indicating that Disney is undergoing refurbishment at the water park. However, Typhoon Lagoon is expected to open again later this year in May, in time for Cool Kids’ Summer to begin!
Disney also has plans to work on one of the attractions at Typhoon Lagoon. The company recently filed a permit for general construction work on Humunga Kowabunga, so that ride will be getting a little extra something or other.
However, you will still be able to visit a water park if that’s on your list of things to do. Blizzard Beach will reopen on February 15th, following a period of refurbishment. Disney tends to stagger the water parks for refurbishment so that at least one is open at all times. Blizzard Beach is themed after a snowy, wintry resort that became that way after a freak blizzard hit Florida (considering the recent weather, that scenario seems more likely!).
If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel from May 26th through September 8th, you can visit Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon FOR FREE on your arrival day as part of Disney World’s hotel perks. So be sure to take advantage of that if you’re heading to Disney World this summer.
We’ll keep an eye out for more closures and reopenings in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
