We’ve got some rough news for those who were hoping to stay at a fully refurbished Contemporary Resort soon.
Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Construction is currently ongoing ALL around Disney World Resort, and while it’s all to make things better, more exciting, and add more value to the parks for guests, when it’s all happening at the same time? That can get a little rough! We’ve been keeping a close eye on the refurbishment happening over at the Contemporary Resort, and it looks like something unfortunate has happened — the construction has just been extended yet again, now meaning it’s going to take over three years to complete this project.
The original timeline for this refurbishment, taking place at Bay Lake Tower and the Convention Center mostly, was set to be complete in Summer 2025. When it became clear that that wasn’t going to happen, the refurbishment was changed to reach completion through July 2026. Now, however, that’s now changed AGAIN.

The newest notice from Disney states that the refurbishment will now continue through Late 2027. Yes, that’s pretty sneaky of Disney to do, because currently, the main Disney World website still has the completion of this project being 2026. The exact wording is as follows:
“September 2024 Through Late 2027 — Refurbishments will occur in phases throughout select areas of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, including the atrium and Bay Lake Tower. Guests may also see and hear construction during their stay.
January 26, 2026, Through Early May 2026 — The Bay Cove Pool, the Cove Bar, the water play area, and the whirlpool spa at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will temporarily be closed for maintenance. The Bay Lake Pool, the feature pool, the water play area, and the whirlpool spa at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will remain open for Guests to enjoy.”

This means that, if the hotel truly does reach completion at that time, it’ll have been under construction for about THREE years. This project all began in September 2024, and while some parts of it have been checked off, there’s still a long way to go, it seems.

This could be great news. If it means updating/simplifying the atrium I’m all for it!!!! The atrium has become a messy hodgepodge over the years. The checkin area and recent DVC updates are beautiful and inline with the 70s Mary Blair vibe that is befitting for the contemporary.
