Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is set to reopen on April 8th with a BUNCH of changes.
The ride is getting new blasters, new ride scenes, a new character, and more. We got the chance to check out the ride before it officially opens as part of a preview, and while we LOVE the new changes, we did spot something that we think might be a problem going forward — and it all has to do with the new blasters.
One of the biggest (and most celebrated) changes to the new version of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is the replacement of the original, fixed blasters with new ones that can be picked up and aimed in any direction. Previously, you had to fully spin your ride vehicle to aim your blaster at the targets, but now, you can pick up your blaster and point it where you want it to go. This is an extremely welcome change, and we’re not the only ones who think so.
However, it seems as though the new blasters may pose an entirely NEW problem for this ride. While we loved the changes overall, our only complaint was that the blasters are a bit hard to get back into their holsters at the end of the ride. We struggled with ours for a bit before eventually getting it back into the holster. It easily could have just been that we weren’t used to it yet, but it wasn’t as intuitive as other, similar rides we’ve been on.
As an example, Men In Black: Alien Attack at Universal Orlando features a similar blaster situation, but from our experience, it’s much easier to place them back into their holsters at the end of the ride.
While the Buzz blaster issue isn’t a huge deal in the long run, we can easily see it being a problem for people who are trying to quickly get off the ride — potentially just leaving the blasters hanging instead of putting them back. Ultimately, we’ll have to wait and see how things go when the ride officially opens, but this is definitely something to be aware of before you blast off to infinity and beyond!
We’ll be on the lookout for more updates about Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Magic Kingdom. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
