Disney Cruise Line continues to grow as its fleet gets bigger and bigger. That means you have even more choices if you’ve ever been interested in taking a Disney Cruise. Options! We love options! Especially when they’re all unique Disney themes.
The next ship to set sail for the first time is the Disney Destiny, which will embark on its maiden voyage on November 20th (yes, that’s soon). Ahead of its maiden voyage, though, the ship needs to be put through the paces, a.k.a. sea trials. Well, the Disney Destiny is now out there on the ocean, getting ready to do just that, according to The Orlando Sentinel. Aww…it’s like baby’s first steps! We’re feeling like proud parents over here.
The Disney Destiny recently left the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany (after a big float-out ceremony) to make the tugboat-assisted 20-mile trip down the Ems River to Eemshaven, Netherlands. From there, it will head out for its sea trials in the North Sea. Y’all, this is a BIG deal.
The ship won’t be officially handed over to Disney Cruise Line until it completes its series of sea trials to measure its performance and prove its seaworthiness. At these trials, you’ll usually find technical representatives from the ship’s builder, governing and certification owners, and Disney representatives present. Once the ship passes its sea trials, it will be certified for commissioning and then accepted by its owner, a.k.a. Disney. Yes, it’s a whole process, but an important one!
Once it passes the sea trials, the ship, which is inspired by Disney heroes and villains, will make the transatlantic journey from the North Sea to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This probably won’t happen until late October or early November, though. Then, on November 20th, the ship will begin setting sail and will offer four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and western Caribbean with stops at Castaway Cay and the new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
OK, can we take a moment to talk about the Disney heroes and villains theme, because WOW, that’s cool! Look out for both heroes and villains onboard the ship, including characters from The Lion King, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and Hercules. Disney teased new spaces, experiences, and entertainment on the ship inspired by the heroes and villains of those popular Disney films.
