Two NEW shows recently premiered at Hollywood Studios, and they’re already changing our game plan for Disney World’s third theme park!
On May 27th, both The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure AND Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After premiered at the park. The former, an update of the classic Voyage of the Little Mermaid show, uses “lively puppets, props, digital puppetry and jaw-dropping effects” to tell an abridged version of the film’s story, including performances of “Kiss the Girl”, “Daughters of Triton.” “Part of Your World”, “Under the Sea”, and “Poor Unfortunate Souls”. The latter is a “spellbinding show with moving music and a most memorable finale—where you help decide who has been treated most unfairly.”
So, how will these two shows alter your next Hollywood Studios day? Well, let’s break it down.
Currently, The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure is scheduled to run continuously from 9:15 to 7:15 each day, while Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After has shows scheduled for 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM, 1:00 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:00 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:00 PM, 3:30 PM, 4:00 PM, 4:30 PM, 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM, and 7:00 PM each day through early August, the furtherest possible days listed on the Disney calendar.
As of right now, neither of these two shows are part of the Lightning Lane program. Interestingly, the Little Mermaid show was initially stated to be Lightning Lane eligible; however, that changed shortly before the show’s official opening. That said, Lightning Lanes could still play a part in figuring out which show times you’d like to see.
The Little Mermaid show is staged in the same theater as its predecessor in the park’s Animation Courtyard area, while the Villains show takes place at the former home of the Lightning McQueen Racing Academy, Sunset Showcase, which is located near the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster.
So, if you have Lightning Lanes booked for attractions near one of the shows (Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Toy Story Land for the former and the aforementioned Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster as well as the Tower of Terror for the latter), you can time seeing each show with those Lightning Lanes to try and maximize your time in each area of the park.
One further thing to keep in mind? Both of the new shows are indoors, which means that in the event of inclement weather shutting down major attractions in Toy Story Land and the Tower of Terror, each show may see a huge jump in demand during the closure. The same could hold true during periods when popular attractions like Rise of the Resistance or Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway go down due to technical issues.
The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Unfairly Ever After have barely opened, and they’re already changing the face of Hollywood Studios. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the park’s transformation!
