What do you think of Disney’s live-action remakes? We know that’s a loaded question because there are a LOT of opinions out there about whether Disney should be converting its animated works into live-action movies.
Regardless of how you feel about live-action remakes, though, many have done very well for the company. The live-action Lilo & Stitch did so well at the box office that Disney decided to make a sequel. However, on the other side of the debate, the live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs didn’t do well for the company. So it’s not always a sure bet that a live-action movie will be a hit at the box office. Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has decided not to go down the live-action movie road for another film that it had live-action plans for: Robin Hood.
In 2020, Disney revealed it had plans to bring the Oo-De-Lally world of Robin Hood, its animated film based on folklore surrounding an infamous British outlaw known for stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, to live-action life with both live-action and CGI. At the time, Disney had pegged Raya and the Last Dragon director Carlos Lopez Estrada to direct the movie with Lady and the Tramp writer Kari Granlund writing the script. Now, it seems plans for that movie are kaput.
During a recent Reddit AMA, Estrada confirmed that Disney was not moving forward with the live-action film. “It’s dead, sadly,” he wrote as a response to a question. “I say ‘sadly’ because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it.” He also admitted that he keeps daydreaming about doing the film independently (after all, Disney doesn’t own the rights to the Robin Hood folktales) with different characters.
However, that doesn’t mean Disney is done with live-action movies. The live-action Moana arrives in theaters this summer, while the company is also committed to making a live-action movie based on Gaston from Beauty and the Beast and a live-action Hercules.

I’m glad they killed the plans to make a live action Robin Hood. Whether or not it’s Disney, every few years Hollywood remakes Robin Hood and the last one tanked.
Hercules will be amazing.
I’m delighted live action movies are being tabled!! Just look at Snow White as an example of what NOT to do!! As per usual, Disney goes off WITHOUT doing their due diligence and wonder why they create a bomb!! Imagineers AREN’T what they used to be.
