The predicted track of the hurricane has changed slightly a few times as models continue to make updates with new data. However, Orlando and Disney World are expected to be within the path of the storm. A State of Emergency has been declared for 35 counties, including the two Disney World resides in (Orange and Osceola Counties), and a hurricane warning is in effect for the area. The National Hurricane Center and other local agencies continue to monitor the hurricane using models, but models for the path of the storm aren’t the only models being used.

According to Alan Harris, Office of Emergency Management Director of Seminole County, at a Seminole County Emergency Management press conference on October 7th, modeling is done on predicted debris for after a hurricane. That means that using data and information, they have made estimates of how much debris is expected to litter the area once Hurricane Milton has passed.
At the press conference, Harris shared the predicted amount of debris that their models are currently estimating. He stated that their models predict that Seminole County will have 3-10 million cubic yards of debris to remove after Hurricane Milton. He followed up that comment by putting it into Disney terms for all of us who understand that better than millions of cubic yards. “That is 33 Spaceship Earths at EPCOT Center,” Harris commented.
He reiterated that it is going to take the county “a long, long time” to clean up the debris that occurs after the coming hurricane. Currently, many debris teams are already busy in other states and in the panhandle cleaning up from Hurricane Helene. But Seminole County is prepping for major debris.
Seminole County is a neighboring county to Orange County, which houses Disney World.
Hurricane Milton is currently considered a category 5 hurricane as it continues its movement northeastward toward Florida. It is expected to make landfall on the coast of Florida on Wednesday. As of now, Disney World has not made any announcements about the parks closing, but it has restricted new hotel reservations and park pass reservations (for those who need them) as well as updated its hotel reservation modifications policy for this week. However, Disney World continues to monitor the hurricane.
