The theme has already been revealed for runDisney’s 2023 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend — Retro ’90s. (If you registered for the race simply due to the theme, we can’t blame ya.) And every single one of the races in Disney World for this marathon weekend has sold out, along with the Castaway Cay Challenge offered through Disney Cruise Line. Your only chance to participate in the event is by running the races virtually. And if you’re already registered to participate in one of the races at Disney World (or you’re just a fan of ’90s theming), you’ll want to take a look at the medals for this throwback race!
The 2023 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is taking place January 4th through the 8th, 2023, and it’s completely ‘90s-themed in celebration of runDisney’s 30th anniversary. To stay with the theme, the medals provide a fun throwback to the ’90s. Those running the Walt Disney World 5K will receive a Pluto Medal that’s full of bright colors, bones, pawprints, and Pluto!

10K participants will receive a medal themed after Chip ‘n’ Dale! They’re running the race together, obvi.

Donald and Daisy are the stars of the Half Marathon Medal. It shows the pair running in the race, and the medal almost seems to be shaped in a bow, just like Daisy’s!

Of course, Mickey and Minnie are featured on the Walt Disney World Marathon Medal. This medal is shaped like the number 30 (for runDisney’s 30th anniversary), and says “I Did It!”

Challenge participants will also receive medals! Those running Goofy’s Race & A Half Challenge (both the half and full marathon) will receive a medal with Goofy, of course. The medal also says 39.3 miles to show off the number of miles run by challenge participants. This medal looks like those retro shade glasses.

And if you’re ambitious enough to run all 4 races to complete the Dopey Challenge, you’ll receive the Dopey Medal which is shaped like a 10 to celebrate the 10 years the challenge has been running (pun intended). It also says 48.6 to honor the miles run by participants in this challenge.
