We’re going to let you in on a little secret — we love ordering off the kids’ menu. Not only are these meals usually a great amount of food, but they’re also a couple of dollars cheaper, which really, really adds up across your family and vacation.
Now you might not want to go order any kids’ meal, all silly nilly. There are some that have more value, and others that might leave you hungry. We pulled some of our favorite kids’ meals that we think are worth every penny, where we leave full with no extra food and aren’t immediately looking for our next stop.
Before you wonder, yes, adults are able to order dishes off the kids’ menu at quick service (counter service) restaurants with no issues. If you plan on doing this at a table service restaurant, especially at a prix fixe menu where kids and adults are set prices, you’ll want to talk to your server. You might be able to order off the kids’ menu, but you might have to pay the adult price, so it’s likely it won’t be worth it. Today, we’re talking about quick service restaurants.
Quick service restaurants make up a lot of restaurants across Disney World. You don’t need a reservation; you can walk up to the counter and order, or check out items with Mobile Order on the Disney World app, which lets you order directly. A lot of kids’ menus also include drinks and sides, which you can choose. If you’re offered two sides, most of the time you can order two of the same side (aka one big serving of fries).
There are many options to make your meal perfect for you, but if you’re struggling with customizations in the app, you’ll want to order at the counter to make sure you get everything you want.
Let’s jump into our favorites!
Satu’li Canteen — Animal Kingdom
We love Satu’li for both kids and adults because it’s some of the more unique food you can grab during your trip. On the kids’ menu, you can grab the Chopped Wood-Grilled Chicken Bowl for $9.29, which comes with your choice of base for a smaller portion versus the adults’ one for $13.49, which is just a larger portion.
You can also grab the Cheeseburger Steamed Pods — Bao Buns, which are some of our favorite foods here, for $9, which comes with two sides. The adult one for $14 comes with another bao bun, but we’re perfectly fine after one, especially with the sides.
Flame Tree Barbecue — Animal Kingdom
At Flame Tree Barbecue, we always go for their savory ribs, chicken, and pork. For kids, you can grab the Pulled Pork Platter for $8, which comes with two sides and a drink, or the Baked Chicken Drumstick for $8.29. For adults, you can get the Ribs and Chicken Combo for $16 or the Ribs, Chicken, and Pulled Pork Sampler for $19. While the adults do have more than one meat, we’re pretty happy with the chicken or pork for a more affordable option.
Woody’s Lunch Box — Hollywood Studios
This is by far one of our favorite kids’ meal hacks! You can get half a Grilled Cheese with a side for $7.49, and the Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich on the adults is $11. We like to choose soup as our side for something a little bit more filling, too. While we love diving into a full grilled cheese, Woody’s is usually hot and busy, so it’s nice to be able to grab a small but filling option before continuing on our Hollywood Studios day.
Columbia Harbour House — Magic Kingdom
Columbia Harbour House has quite a few options that match the adults’ menu. One of our favorites is the Grilled Salmon for $9 versus the larger, Maple-Mustard Glazed Salmon for $16. The kids’ one comes with sides, and we highly recommend the hushpuppies.
The adults Shirmp Skewer Platter is $14.50, while the kids one is only $9, and the Chicken Strips is only $9, and comes with two pieces and sides, while the adults one is $11.
Connections Eatery — EPCOT
Connections Eatery has Cheese Pizza for $8.29 with two sides and a drink, while the adult one costs $11.29 with two slices of pizza. You can also grab the American Classic Burger, which comes with bacon for $15 on the adults’ menu, or the kids’ Cheeseburger for $9. If you’re ever concerned it might not be enough at any of the restaurants, you can always add on an additional side to share with the table.
La Cantina de San Angel — EPCOT
On the kids’ menu, you can grab the Chicken Tacos for $9.50, which comes with chips and nacho cheese, or the Tacos de Pollo on the adults’ menu for $15.75 that comes with rice and beans. Personally, I think chips are the way to go, and you can add a side of guacamole for $7 for the table. You could also add a side of fries for $3.50, which still makes it cheaper than the adult one.
The Polite Pig — Disney Springs
All kids’ meals at the Polite Pig are $9, and adults are $13 and up, with most around $20. This is a smokin’ deal (haha, see what we did there?) where you can get some of the same items like the Smoked Pork Slider.
Chicken Guy! — Disney Springs
We love the Two Tenders for $7.49 on the kids’ menu, which comes with your choice of crispy or grilled tenders, and you get a side, including fries, and a fountain beverage. You can add on sauces for $0.50. If you want three tenders, you can grab the Three Tenders for $7.49, which comes with two sauces but no sides, so even though it’s the same price, it’s a bit of a trade-off.
That’s a wrap! It’s totally worth trying a kids’ meal, especially if you want the same meal but smaller, since a lot of the options on the menu are the same as the adults’ but in a smaller portion. This also lets you try more food throughout Disney World, which we totally love. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more tips and tricks to make your vacation the best EVER.
