Howdy, folks! We’ve got some great news.
Tom Sawyer Island has been closed for quite some time while Rivers of America was drained. As construction took place, the trails, mines, and picnic benches remained empty. But a few days ago, we spotted rafts being tested on a refilled Rivers of America — and now, the island is back open for business!
Both Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle Riverboat reopened today, marking the end of a lengthy refurbishment around Rivers of America. Of course, we had to go visit for ourselves!
There was a line to board the rafts to Tom Sawyer Island, but social distancing markers were in place to keep guests 6 feet apart.
As rafts left the dock, everyone on board also seemed to be spaced out.
Then, we were on our way!
Once on Tom Sawyer Island, a sign welcomed us. It promises dark caves, mystery mines, and shaky bridges, so let’s go explore!
Our first stop was Harper’s Mill, which got a red paint job as part of the refurbishment.
Then, we headed over to Aunt Polly’s. The quick service window, which is open seasonally and serves BBQ sandwich biscuits, pretzel sticks, and root beer floats, is currently closed.
However, there are vending machines that sell Coke, Sprite, and bottled water. Each drink is $4.50, and the machines only take cash or coins.
Our next stop was the barrel bridge, which was also closed.
Both the entrance and exit were blocked off.
As we passed the suspension bridge, we noticed that it was closed, too!
The Scavenger Fort is closed as well! This is a playground and a high touchpoint area, so it makes sense that it’s currently unavailable.
We decided to try our luck with some of the caves instead.
These are open! As always, they’re a little dark and disorienting, but LOTS of fun.
Next, we stopped by the windmill, which had gotten some sprucing up during the refurbishment. It looked as good as new!
On our way out, we noticed that some of the railing on the island has a covering over it. We’re not too sure why it’s there, but we’ll keep an eye on it!
That wraps up our tour of Tom Sawyer Island! We’re glad to see the end of this closure (and are hoping the PeopleMover will take a hint!). As this refurbishment ends, two more Magic Kingdom attractions will temporarily close, so construction in the park will trek on.
