I have one tradition every Halloween season that I follow, no matter what. I watch Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 on repeat. I cannot get enough of the Sanderson Sisters. I even have a black cat named Thackery Binx, so it’s no secret that I’m a fan.

Well, you can imagine how excited I am to share the news with you that a third Hocus Pocus movie is in the works, according to Deadline, and it’s bringing back the Sanderson Sisters for one more fun adventure!

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that a third Hocus Pocus movie is in the works. The Hocus Pocus 2 sequel to the original film set a record for its streaming debut on Disney+. We first got word that Disney was interested in a third film in June 2023 when Sean Bailey, the president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, confirmed that Hocus Pocus 3 was happening. Shortly after that, Disney confirmed that Anne Fletcher, who directed the second movie, would direct the third. At the time, a script was being worked on for the third movie.

Well, it’s been crickets for three years, but now, Hocus Pocus 3 is reportedly in early development at Disney Live Action Studios. But here’s the BEST part: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are on board to reprise their roles as the Sanderson Sisters. YES! Disney would not confirm if the third movie would be a theatrical release or for Disney+, though. Disney has also not revealed any plot details for the third movie.

So why has it taken so long to get to this point? Well, Deadline’s sources say there was a halt in negotiations about salary with the three actresses, but those have now been worked out (whew). So this time, it sounds like it really is — and FINALLY — happening. Now, if we could get Disney to get some previous cast members on board from the first film…well, then we’d be ALL SET, wouldn’t we?
