There’s a NEW Disney+ series in the works, and we would have NEVER been able to guess what character it was going to be about.

According to Deadline, Disney+ has just acquired the rights to a new Casper the Friendly Ghost show! Disney landed the IP after a competitive bidding war that involved five parties, and now a new show is coming. Let’s take a look at what we know.
We don’t know too much about the new Casper show, but it’s being described as a modern update on the classic ghost story. We also know that it will be a live-action project directed and written by Rob Letterman.

Rob Letterman has done notable movies such as Shark Tale, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. Letterman also executive-produced another Disney+ series, Goosebumps. He collaborated with Hilary Winston on Goosebumps, and she will be working with Letterman once again, only this time as a co-writer for this new Casper project.

The best news about this new Disney+ show has to be that the legendary Steven Spielberg will be returning for it. He was an executive producer of the 1995 Universal movie Casper.

Interestingly, this will be the first Universal IP to have its own content on Disney+. This would be a rare Disney+ series project based on a famous IP that is not from within the Disney ecosystem or derived from books. We’ll have to wait and hear more about the project, but it is in the early stages of development.
