If it seems like everything in Disney World is changing, well, it IS. There’s SO much going on right now. The parks are getting new lands, new rides, expansions, you name it. New shops and experiences are coming to Disney Springs. Even Disney World hotels are getting updates, but one recent construction project has Disney World fans talking…LOUDLY.
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside just updated its Royal Rooms, and let’s just say when we posted photos of the new rooms, our readers had some SERIOUS OPINIONS. So let’s talk about how many of you feel about this recent hotel room change.
Let’s take a look at this room change. Here are what the rooms looked like before they were updated. As you can see, there’s a lot of character and heavy theming.
Here’s what the new rooms look like. As you can see, this is a HUGE difference.
Well, we asked you, our readers, to tell us what you think about the rooms, and let’s just say, you had some SERIOUS opinions. Overall, most of the feedback about the rooms is negative, and it seems many Disney fans just don’t like what one of our Instagram followers, @lexielehr, wrote “Beigification [sic] strikes again.” And, well, yes, the new rooms are very…beige.
Instagram user @tenpointstogripentrog wrote, “looks like a revamped All Star room.” Ouch. Meanwhile, @jchrdz88 commented, “They really be out there taking the magic out of everything 😪.”
Reader @rebeccadopp14 didn’t mince words and said, “Wish I could have stayed there BEFORE. They have ruined it. They have a really bad decorator/designer. Needs to be fired.”
Instagram user @heatherpoland13 just said, “A tragedy.”
Others agreed, including @masterchristian2004, who simply wrote, “What a disaster.”
Many complained about the room losing its theming, like @jeffhammphoto, who commented, “Good job Disney at taking the theming out of yet another hotel space. So glad we were able to stay in the actual royal rooms last year before they took them away like this.”
The original rooms had a headboard with “fireworks,” and many of you are sad to see it go. Over on Facebook, Jessie commented, “😭 I always wanted to stay here because of that headboard detail!! The fan is a nice touch but can Disney please get out of the millennial gray area and go back to being magical. [sic]”
Melinda said, “They had so much more character before. Now they look like almost every other room on property. I’m glad I stayed in one when I did.”
Andrea wrote, “I am definitely a part of the ‘before’ crowd. They were absolutely gorgeous! The Royal Rooms were the one room I had on my bucket list to stay in and now I am not even interested.
“
Karlie commented, “No one wants to pay premium prices for normal hotel rooms- they were so magical before!!”
Judy said, “No, they took away the fairytale feel. Now it just looks like a standard, impersonal hotel room.”
However, there were some of you who liked the new rooms. Tricia commented, “I wasn’t sure about the new design at first, but in person it is so nice! The rooms now have so much more storage than before as well. Very happy with the change.”
Carla wrote, “After. duh!! the before is dark and dirty looking! I also hate carpet with a passion. it just breeds filth.”
Instagram user @rulonk621 commented, “I personally love all of the ‘modernization’ of the renovated rooms (at all resorts) but I know people think they are too bland so I’m probably in the minority!”
We will say, though, that overall, many of you really hate the new rooms, and we get it. It’s certainly a huge change, after all.

I definitely like the new rooms better – lighter and with a softer Disney touch. I actually did not care for them before but would be more liekly to stay in them now with the re-work.
