It’s no secret that MagicBands have become an integral part of a Disney World vacation over the last decade+. They can serve as room keys, payment methods, entry tickets, be used to check-in for Lightning Lanes, connect with PhotoPass, and react to select Disney theme park attractions with “lighting effects and gesture recognition”, and they’re available in a slew of cool designs!
However, there can be some negative side effects to wearing them if you’re not careful!
They Can Cause Irritation
So, while MagicBands are generally pretty comfortable in our experience, their rubber-like material can get a bit irritating to wear around your wrist all day, especially during the sweaty summer season. A nice way around that is to wear your band a bit looser than skintight, that way there’s more breathing room.
Don’t Lose Your Band!
Of course, wearing your MagicBand a bit looser runs a risk of it potentially falling off in the park – or even worse, on a ride! Now, there is a chance that Disney may be able to track your MagicBand, which is going to take a big chunk of time out of your day, and if it can’t be found, you’ll likely need to pay for a replacement. However, there is a way to avoid losing them altogether: These silicone locks will keep your MagicBand+ affixed properly even if you wear them loose.
You May Need to Rearrange Your Jewelry
Even if your MagicBand isn’t going anywhere, it can still be a bit annoying to have to rearrange your own personal jewelry, fitness tracker, or smart device like an Apple Watch. However, you can use this watch adapter to attach your MagicBand’s RFID puck to your Apple Watch band, wearing both on the same wrist comfortably.
Also, once you’ve affixed your MagicBand+ RFID puck to your Apple Watch, why not pick up a special Disney watchband!
Watch Your Spending
One of the many potential uses of your MagicBand is essentially as a debit card. However, for some guests, simply tapping their band for purchase after purchase can lead to them blowing past their budget without even realizing it. Unfortunately, there’s no easy hack to avoid this other than simply paying attention to how often your tapping your band for snacks and souvenirs.
MagicBands are a major part of any Walt Disney World vacation, but there are some potential unfortunate side effects to keep an eye out for. Stay tuned to DFB for more on visiting the “Most Magical place on Earth.”?

Those little bands do keep your magic band safer!
Years ago in the good old days when Disney was caring like the free fast pass , free magic express , dining plan had 2 snacks and free ( be they grey ) magic bands if you stayed at wdw and us dvc members got a free silicon lock !!
They were awesome !
On the WDW app (and possibly Disneyland app), you can check room charges. This would work for those staying on property.
Here’s another unfortunate side effect.
My wife and I went to Disneyland and bought MagicBands (not realizing that they aren’t as useful there as they are at WDW.) A cast member at the Disney store there linked them for us, and we had no problem using them at Disneyland or DCA.
We went to the Magic Kingdom at WDW and tried to use the bands, but both are linked to me, so my wife can’t use hers at WDW. Any attempt to remedy this has fallen on deaf ears. So the best I can do is switch the puck out of hers for an older one.
Also, I would urge people with pacemakers to take their magic bands off while they eat because the band can affect their pacer. What I did was hook my band to a belt loop, after I entered the parks.
