If you have not yet made your way to The Cake Bake Shop Bakery on the BoardWalk at Disney World, we have one question for you: what are you waiting for?
Seriously, this place is a gem, and the Red Velvet Cake is the kind of thing that makes you rethink every red velvet cake you have ever had before it. We aren’t being dramatic. Okay, maybe a little. But only a little.
The Details
The Red Velvet Cake from The Cake Bake Shop Bakery on the BoardWalk will run you $22.
Yes, that is a real number, and yes, we are here to tell you it is worth it.
What Is It, Exactly?
This is a three-layer red velvet cake that is absolutely stunning to look at.
The exterior is coated in a pink buttercream that is honestly one of the prettiest things we have seen in a Disney World bakery, and the inside layers are filled with cream cheese frosting. The cake itself is deeply, richly red and incredibly moist, and there are what appear to be chocolate chunks worked in as well, adding this subtle depth that you wouldn’t necessarily expect but absolutely appreciate.
How Does It Taste?
So good. That is the short version. The longer version is that this is the kind of dessert that hits all the right notes without going overboard.
It’s sweet, but it’s not that cloying, one-bite-and-you-are-done kind of sweet. You can actually eat a real portion of this thing and enjoy every single bite without feeling like you need to lie down afterward. A few bites in and you’re not already tapping out, which feels likea rare thing in the world of Disney desserts, and we don’t take it lightly.
It is genuinely filling, though, so if you are planning to power through the whole slice solo right before a big meal, maybe recalibrate your expectations. But if you are splitting it or pacing yourself between park activities, this is an absolute treat.
We’ve ordered this multiple times, and it holds up every single time. That kind of consistency is everything.
One Small Note
The one thing we will flag is the utensil situation. We received a pretty flimsy spork with our order, which is not exactly ideal when you are trying to cut through three layers of cake. A sturdier plastic fork would go a long way here.
For a $22 dessert, a more solid utensil feels like a reasonable ask. It is a minor gripe, but worth knowing so you can mentally prepare or ask for an upgrade at the counter.
The Bottom Line
The Cake Bake Shop Bakery consistently delivers some of the best baked goods you can find anywhere on Disney property, and the Red Velvet Cake is a prime example of why people keep coming back. It is a splurge, no question, but it is the kind of splurge that feels completely justified from the first bite. If red velvet is your thing, this one is going to be hard to beat.

I don’t care how good it is I will not pay that much for one piece of cake. To many other better things to eat.
Very few people agree with your Cake Bake reviews. Personally I will never again pay for a slice of cake at $22.
Not a slice of cake in the world is worth $22.
We are going to WDW next month, and I’ve been eyeing the Cake Bake Shop, but not sure I wanted to pay $22. Seems like a lot, even for Disney! But–I checked out the CBS website, and discovered that the lady who started it is from Indianapolis, and there are 2 locations there! And as it happened, we were going out to Ohio (from IL) to see our son, and would be going through Indy on the way. We stopped at the CBS location in Carmel, north side of Indy and had lunch. All I can say is “WOW!” It’s worth stopping in just to take photos! It’s as if someone took Marie Antoinette and a unicorn, and put them in the blender and left the top off! So beautiful! I had the Croque Monsieur sandwich, which was excellent, and was served with an arugula salad, which was so-so. I also bought 3 slices of cake to take to my son’s house with me. The Raspberry Champagne, the Black Forest (my son’s fav and it was his birthday) and the Millionaire Cake. Oh, and I forgot to mention that the IN locations are cheaper than Disney. Still pricey, at $17 for a slice of cake. It was worth it! I tried the Millionaire and the Raspberry, and I think the raspberry was the best! This might turn into a new tradition every time we go visit my son!
