I sacrificed my feet for science…and real-world Disney experience.

What shoes do you wear in the parks?
If you’re trying to decide between Brooks and HOKA shoes for your next Disney World trip, you’ve found the right Disney World reporter, who’s been there, done that, and lived to tell the tale. I’ve tested multiple versions of popular shoe brands during my days at Disney World in search of a clear winner. While you might be thinking, “Both brands should have held up well, duh!” I’m most invested in breaking down exactly what “well” means for your feet and how that might affect your upcoming trip.
Let’s be honest, if there’s one thing that can make or break your Disney World vacation, it’s your shoes. All those steps running around Disney World from rope drop to fireworks? Yeah, your feet feel every single one! After testing some of the most popular shoe brands and models on real Disney park days, I’m spilling the honest, unfiltered verdict: which ones stood up to miles of pavement, Florida heat, and endless walking.
But before I do a full deep-dive investigation to show you the data-driven results, we’ve got to talk about the lineup we’re working with here. The HOKA Clifton 10 offered a plush cushioning and cloud-like feel, while the Brooks Ghost 17 brought their A-game with structured support and a soft ride, and the HOKA Rincon 4 were lightweight and breathable, but less cushiony. Now let’s talk real-world park performance!
HOKA Rincon 4 — Lightweight But Limited Cushioning
The HOKA Rincon 4 is unbelievably light and breathable, which honestly felt great early in the day, but after several hours of walking and standing on hard pavement, it started to feel a bit less protective than the other two options.
These were nice for short strolls and casual days, but if you’re doing marathon park days (hello Magic Kingdom and EPCOT combo days), they lacked the same level of cushioning that the Clifton 10 and Ghost 17 delivered. Their minimal feel can be a perk for runners or people who love a super light shoe, but for theme park endurance? They just didn’t hold up as well.
These shoes are the best “fit” for anyone headed out for lighter walking days, shorter vacations, or people who prefer a very light shoe with moderate cushioning.
Brooks Ghost 17 — The All-Around Contender
The Brooks Ghost 17 felt like the best all-around, balanced sneaker of the bunch. Unlike the cloud-soft HOKAs, the Ghosts strike a middle ground that’s equal parts supportive and cushioned, without feeling overly squishy or unstable.
It’s easy to see why they’re a crowd favorite due to their supportive stride, which ended up being ideal for long days without fatigue. They also offered a comfortable midsole that molds to your foot, a structured feel without stiffness, and breathability (especially in warmer weather!)
The Ghost 17 quickly feels like shoes you’ve owned for ages after a short break-in, and they’re supportive enough to tackle hours of walking without doubt. These are the best “fit” for those wanting support and comfort that feels natural without going too plush — especially great if your feet are sensitive but you still want durability.
HOKA Clifton 10 — The All-Day Comfort Champion
The HOKA Clifton 10 was the standout star of this group. From the first step, they felt like walking on clouds with soft, responsive cushioning that takes the pounding out of miles on cement sidewalks. These shoes excel at shock absorption, which is a complete game-changer after 8 to 10 hours of walking and waiting in lines.
Their ultra-plush cushioning made long hours feel noticeably easier, their wide toe box kept my toes from feeling cramped all day, they worked great for high arches (if that’s you, trust me — you’ll notice), and there wasn’t any rubbing or ankle irritation after hours, all of which factored into why they worked so well for Disney World.
You might even find that if you’re typically someone who avoids sneakers, you’ll still be smiling by the end of the day in these, and that never happens with most shoes! These shoes are going to be the best “fit” for anyone who prioritizes comfort above all else, especially if you’re walking 10+ miles per day or have sensitivity in your feet or knees.
Final Verdict: Which Shoe Should You Pack?
If we had to choose one for a full Disney World trip? Hands down, the HOKA Clifton 10 earns the crown for all-day park comfort. That plush cushioning truly made miles feel easier and reduced foot fatigue in a way the others couldn’t quite match.
But listen, the Brooks Ghost 17 was so close in comfort and support that we’d happily wear them again depending on how we were packing for the trip. They’re a fantastic second choice and might even edge ahead for people who prefer structured support over ultra-plush cushioning.
It’s also good to keep in mind a few tips before you’re ready to head out for your next Disney World trip with brand new shoes you’re so excited to try out! Don’t forget to wear in your shoes before the trip– even great shoes benefit from a few walks at home. If you’re prone to hot spots or blisters, consider packing moleskin or blister pads in your park bag, and comfortable shoes makes everything more enjoyable and keep your mind focused on making memories rather than writhing in pain your whole vacation.

I bought a pair of each for my last Disney trip. I’ve always been a fan of Brooks as a distance runner and it was my first pair of Hokas. The Hokas hands down won between the two!! In fact, I wear them all the time as a teacher as well. Get the Hokas for your trip….it’s worth every penny!
