Character dining is one of those unique experiences that Disney fans simply love, so could Disney World be getting more soon?

Where else can you hug Mickey, snap photos with princesses, or exchange laughs with Winnie the Pooh, all without waiting in a standby line, while enjoying a meal? For many guests, character dining is a must-do, whether it’s a first visit or a tradition they book trip after trip. And with HUGE changes and expansions officially on the way to Disney World’s parks, it has us asking a big question: could these new lands and restaurants mean more character dining experiences in the future? Let’s take a closer look at what’s been announced and where our favorite characters might end up.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Pueblo Esperanza
Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Pueblo Esperanza is already well under construction with a completion date in 2027. While we don’t yet have full details about the new restaurant planned for Pueblo Esperanza in the Tropical Americas expansion, we do know it will include a massive hacienda-style quick-service restaurant, which is likely taking over where Restaurantaurus stood. Disney has already confirmed this will be one of the largest quick-service dining locations in all of Disney World when it opens.

La Hacienda
As exciting as that sounds, character dining at a quick-service location is highly unlikely. Character meals typically require longer seating times, structured schedules, and higher price points, which are all things that don’t mesh well with quick service dining. While we’d love to be surprised, for now it seems more realistic that this expansion will focus on immersive theming and food rather than adding a new character dining experience. We can’t wait to get more details about this land and to see what food will be offered. Some of the very best food in Disney World resides in Animal Kingdom, so we have high expectations.

Magic Kingdom: Villains Land & Piston Peak
Magic Kingdom is the park most guests associate with classic character interactions, which is why the idea of a Villains Land has Disney fans excited at the possibilities, especially when it comes to dining. A villains-themed character meal feels like a perfect fit here, with the potential for appearances from Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, or even lesser-seen villains who don’t often get dedicated meet-and-greet opportunities.
Right now, the closest experience we have is the Evil Queen at Story Book Dining at Artist Point over at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. While Disney has confirmed that Villains Land will include restaurants, no specific dining concepts have been announced yet, leaving plenty of room for speculation.
Disney hasn’t shared many specifics on this land, so dining is still very much in the air.

Meanwhile, over in Piston Peak, expectations for character dining are a bit more grounded. This Cars-themed area is expected to lean heavily into attractions and atmosphere, and while nothing has been officially shared about restaurants in this land, it’s hard to imagine a traditional character dining experience here.
As fun as it would be, Lightning McQueen driving from table to table just doesn’t seem particularly practical. While themed dining is certainly possible, a full-fledged character meal in Piston Peak appears unlikely based on what we know so far.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Monstropolis
Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the planned Monstropolis expansion could offer one of the most intriguing opportunities for character dining. Based on the concept art released so far, the land appears to include Harryhausen’s, the iconic sushi restaurant from Monsters, Inc. That built-in familiarity makes it a strong candidate for a more immersive dining experience.

If Disney chooses to lean into that potential, it’s easy to imagine a character dining setup featuring Mike and Sulley stopping by tables and maybe even a surprise appearance from Boo. While nothing has been officially confirmed, this is one expansion where character dining feels not just possible, but plausible. We could also potentially see animatronics here, kind of like we’ve seen at Oga’s Cantina.

Hi, Sully!
While nothing has been officially confirmed just yet, these upcoming park expansions open the door to some exciting possibilities for character dining at Disney World. Whether it’s villains lurking over dinner, monsters popping by your table, we’ll be watching closely.
