Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is home to so many fantastic dining options, it’s often entirely worth it to hop on the Monorail at Magic Kingdom to pop over and eat any meal there instead of in the park.
While we love ‘Ohana or Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, sometimes we just want a reservation that’s easier to grab or don’t want to wait on a walk-up waitlist for hours. Thankfully, Kona Cafe usually has multiple reservations open each day. We still recommend grabbing a reservation as early as possible just to be on the safe side, especially if you’re gluten-free or looking for an amazing fall breakfast option — you cannot miss these three items!
For all the fall vibes, we had to start off with the Seasonal Pumpkin Pancakes for $18, which is served with your choice of Ham, Spiced Ham, Bacon, or Sausage.
These are more like a dessert breakfast, for sure, due to how sweet they are, but they tasted just like pumpkin bread does in the BEST way. These leaned more pumpkin rather than pumpkin spice, they were cakey and delicious, and the nuts on top added a fantastic crunch. This is a big portion for sure, so we recommend asking for a box and bringing the rest back to your room to eat at a later time!
While they’re not on the menu, there’s also Gluten-free Tonga Toast available for $17.50 (the SAME price as the regular Tonga Toast — no upcharge!), and the biggest difference is that it’s made with the allergy rolls you can get at most restaurants instead of the regular bread.
We love this so much, not only for the taste, but also because of the thought Disney put into making this dish allergy friendly. It’s not a half-thought out replacement — it’s really like eating Tonga Toast, just with different bread! It’s still got that amazing fried feature, has the banana on the inside. This is totally one we’d recommend going out of your way for if you’re a gluten-free eater, because we were genuinely SO impressed.
Finally, we grabbed the Gluten-Free Mickey Waffles as a side for $5.25. These are available in many different places, and we can see why. They’re light and airy, have a fantastic texture to them that’s just spot-on, and if you had tricked us and told us these weren’t gluten-free, we would have believed you.
The only slight difference we could tell is that the outside may just be slightest bit more tough, but otherwise, it still has that same slight sweet flavor that Mickey waffles are known for. Again, another super solid option!
