Huge news coming out of Universal Orlando today, especially if you’re still mourning the loss of Poseidon’s Fury in the Lost Continent area of the park.
On September 12th, Universal confirmed that construction is coming soon to the Lost Continent area of the park, and based on a permit we just spotted, the park will be demolishing nearly FIVE ACRES of its land — could this mean the Lost Continent is about to look VERY different?
According to the Orlando Business Journal, Director of Public Relations Kristen Smith said in an emailed statement to the news outlet that, “In the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”
The Lost Continent has been part of the park since its opening in 1999, but it’s currently only home to a full-service restaurant (Mythos), two quick-service eateries, and a few gift shops. The two other attractions in this land have been closed for many years. The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad was a stunt show that closed back in 2018, while Poseidon’s Fury was an interactive special effects show that closed in May 2023. Since then, this entire area has remained empty.
Now, based on the permit Universal filed on September 10th, the park is seeking to demolish 4.9 acres of “theme park site” in this area. While nothing has been exactly confirmed just yet, combining this permit with Universal’s statement, it seems that both of these former attractions will be demolished to make way for something new.
We’re looking forward to seeing what will replace these attractions, though we do still continue to miss them. We’re also curious to see if Mythos restaurant and the other shops and restaurants in the area will remain, or if they’ll be rethemed to fit the new area.

I hope nothing happens to Mythos. It’s a MUST for us when we’re there! Never have had a bad meal!
It always seemed like wasted space to me, i wonder what will be build in that area? It’s right next to the Harry Potter section, so who knows?
The Lost Continent was my favorite part of IOA for a long time! I loved the enchanted oak restaurant that was there and was saddened when HP took over 1/2 the land.
What’s left is still enchanting and PF was a fabulous “ride,” we eat at Mythos EVERY trip and love the atmosphere.
I hope they put in something that fits the original theme and not rebrand the whole area, that would be really sad in my opinion.
