There’s no doubt you’ll have some amazing amenities at your fingertips while sailing the high seas with the Disney Cruise Line…but there’s one notable room issue that kinda bums us out.
Whether you’re staying in a Disney cruise’s stateroom or a luxurious suite at a Disney World hotel, it’s fair to expect some top-notch amenities. While the Disney Cruise Line certainly offers great perks like 24/7 room service, twice-daily housekeeping, and rooms with gorgeous ocean views, there are some notable shortcomings, like the lack of a certain room perk that could be super useful during a long voyage at sea.
If you’re accustomed to coming back to your room and storing leftovers in a mini fridge, you might be sorely disappointed…
Unfortunately, most of the rooms aboard a Disney cruise ship don’t have mini fridges — but, rather, they have “beverage coolers.” Depending on your stateroom, these might look more like a drawer instead of a traditional mini fridge.
These beverage coolers don’t offer a ton of space — but more importantly, these coolers are not suitable for maintaining the safe temperatures needed for storing refrigerated medication or liquids like breast milk and formula.
These cooling amenities are designed to keep items merely “cool” (typically 40°F to 45°F or higher) rather than at a consistent, safe refrigeration temperature, so spoilage is always a possibility. And if you want to keep something frozen? Don’t count on it. They usually lack a freezer compartment.
This is a problem that Disney has become familiar with, however, and there are some solutions that the company has suggested. For starters, Disney lets you bring a small cooler as part of your carry-on luggage if it is no larger than 12″x12″x12″ and used only for storing baby food, medication, or items related to dietary restrictions. Along with the cooler, you are allowed to bring ice packs, but the cruise ships also offer ice of their own. You can even request ice from that 24/7 room service I mentioned!
Additionally, Disney has suggested getting in touch with the Health Center on board your ship, just in case. Often located on Deck 1, Forward, this service can assist with storage. Keep in mind, though, that guests won’t be able to access their staterooms right away, so you’ll either want to try to get a later Port Arrival Time if your medication needs to remain as cool as possible.
