Disney has been announcing new lands, attractions, and entertainment headed to the theme parks, and we can’t WAIT.
Keeping up with the latest construction permits Disney World files can be a great way to find out just what is going on around the parks and hotels. Recently, Tom Sawyer Island permanently closed to make way for the NEW Piston Peak National Park — a Cars-themed land coming to Magic Kingdom. And now, a new permit has been filed for this transformation!
We’re always on the hunt for the latest construction permits filed by Disney to get an idea of what sort of changes might be coming to the parks, and a new permit was recently filed to get rid of an iconic part of Tom Sawyer Island.
Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new construction permit for Aunt Polly’s on Tom Sawyer Island. This quick-service snack spot had not been operating for quite some time, but now it seems Disney is preparing to finally say goodbye once and for all.
The contractor listed on the permit is Phillips & Jordan, Inc., and the description is for “General Construction,” but this is just another sign that work is continuing on this area that will ultimately be demolished.
Disney wasted no time putting up construction walls along the Rivers of America that stretch from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad all the way to the Haunted Mansion.
While we aren’t personally thrilled that these walls are most likely here for the next few years, we are excited about Piston Peak! The new area will bring two brand new attractions, a new character, shopping, and more. Disney has given us some good insights into what to expect when the new area finally opens.
The upcoming area is inspired by National Parks, and specifically, Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The name of Piston Peak stems from the fictional land, Piston Peak National Park, from the 2014 Disney film Planes: Fire & Rescue (which is part of the Cars universe). We can’t wait to learn more!

Coming Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the hunt for new updates from Disney World and more — so stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest news!
