Anyone else here an avid Target shopper?
Whether we’re shopping online for a new outfit or strolling the aisles aimlessly while adding home goods to our shopping carts, we’ve spent quite a few hours shopping Target’s merchandise. But now, Target might be losing a few fans due to a new policy change.
CNN reports that Target is making a change to its price match guarantee. The retailer is now updating its price match policy to remove Amazon and Walmart as competitive locations.
Previously, the policy noted that if a customer purchased an item and then found the product cheaper at Walmart, Amazon, or another Target location within 14 days, then the customer would be able to receive a refund. Now, the policy will be updated starting July 28th, and it will no longer include Amazon and Walmart price matching.
Now, the refund option will only be valid if a customer finds an item at a different Target location or on the Target website for cheaper. Target has offered the current price match guarantee since 2013, although Amazon has never had something similar, and Walmart ended its program in 2019.
This could be related to Target’s rough financial results last quarter, when the company reported a drop in sales. We’ll be interested to see how this policy change affects their business going forward.

If Target won’t price match then shop at Amazon and Walmart to start with. Easy.
I was concerned that their policies around cardholders getting discounts on gift cards was changing. It’s unfortunate that Target is ending this policy. I didn’t know it existed! I might price check a little in the moment, but once I’ve purchased, that’s that. I don’t have time to continue to check up on prices and take advantage of policies like these, but I admire people who do take those steps. My philosophy is, if I find that something I purchased was overpriced compared to competitors or that merchant’s own later price, I tend to send that merchant to the bottom of my list (or off of it), and I also recommend to others that they shop around before spending their money with that merchant (and why).
