We’ve officially said goodbye to Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney is wasting no time getting to work on the transformation of this area to Monstropolis, a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land coming to the park.
We recently saw some updated concept art for Monsters, Inc. Land, and now, a new map has revealed the location and size of the show building for the land’s suspended roller coaster ride!
A newly released map from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District has likely revealed the location and relative size of the new Monsters, Inc. door coaster that’s coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
We knew that Disney was expanding into the Cast Member parking lot located behind the land, but this map shows just how massive this building is going to be — approximately 365 feet by 330 feet, giving it a total size of around 103,000 square feet.
You can see the large building at the bottom center of the map below, located in part of a backstage Cast Member parking lot.
Disney has already put up construction walls and fenced off this area to begin work on what will be a rather large transformation.
The story of the land will pick up after the events of the popular Pixar film, and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. Disney shares that here, “you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters” and even visit the Laugh Factory!
The new Monsters, Inc. ride will be the first suspended roller coaster EVER in a Disney Park. Josh D’Amaro, Disney Experiences Chairman, said, “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”
An opening timeline for Monsters, Inc. Land has not yet been announced. Construction on the new land has begun as construction walls have appeared in the area following a phased closure of the Grand Avenue area, which began in May and ended on June 8th, resulting in the permanent closure of Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, Muppet*Vision 3D, and PizzeRizzo.
While we’re still mourning the loss of Muppets Courtyard, we are excited about the new Monsters, Inc. Land coming to Hollywood Studios. We’ll be on the lookout for the latest updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more!

Gee, my heart almost skipped a beat when I saw the “fastness kiosk” in the map!!! If only…………. 🙁
I for one am not thrilled about the monsters inc theme ???
I think it’s great that Disney is weather proofing the coaster by building it indoors. But then, the part of the story that it’s simulating was inside the factory so I suppose it was always going to be that way regardless.
So Sad Money Grubbing has Taken Over Disney
We are sad to see anything Muppet eliminated for progress sake however Monsters Inc. Concept art of the new venue is exciting to see and anticipate for future enjoyment.
I am really excited about this land and the new door coaster. Thank you for sharing as always
