The grand opening of Universal Orlando’s third theme park, Epic Universe, is coming up soon.
On May 22nd, we’ll finally see ALL of Epic Universe for the first time, and we cannot wait. The new park will be bringing five NEW themed lands to Universal, including a land dedicated to How To Train Your Dragon called How To Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk. Well, ahead of Epic Universe’s opening, Universal gave us a FIRST LOOK inside the land AND we have all the details!
Atmosphere
As soon as you walk into this land, you know you’re in Isle of Berk!
There are statues and dragon houses on the hill, making it really feel like dragons live here. We love all the water elements that give the park a lot of movement and make it feel more alive. When we first entered, Viking Team Members welcomed us as travelers and asked how our journey had been!
One element of this land that you won’t be able to miss is the Ice Dragon! This huge dragon breathes ice (well, it might just be fog, but we’re choosing to believe it is ICE).

You’ll be able to take pictures and cool down a little with the dragon. We need more Ice Dragons in Florida!
The Untrainable Dragon
While we weren’t able to take photos, we also got to see The Untrainable Dragon, the stage show in which Toothless, Hiccup, and all their friends “work together to solve the mystery of The Untrainable Dragon.” The whole theater is immersive, with detailed tapestries and Viking instruments on the sides. The theater is stadium-style, with benches with high backs, and it sounds like a great place to take a rest during your park day while watching a one-of-a-kind show.
We are in love with this show. It features amazing puppets, and when Toothless flies out during the show, it’s a moment you’ll never forget. Our reporter says, “It’s one of the most magical moments I’ve ever had in a theme park.” This show needs to be added to your theme park bucket list.
To say this land is incredible is an understatement!
Fyre Drill
We didn’t get a chance to ride it today but Fyre Drill will teach Vikings how to put out fires that the dragons start. This will be a water ride in viking boats.
Toothless and Hiccup Meet and Greet
We also got the chance to meet with Toothless and Hiccup, and oh my gosh, it was so adorable.
When we put our hand out, Toothless came straight to us.
Okay OKAY — best. moment. EVER. 🥹 We got to meet Hiccup and TOOTHLESS and honestly?? We'll never be over it. Total dream come true. 🐉✨@UniversalORL #epicuniverse #hosted pic.twitter.com/qB2OZXhhqQ

All How to Train Your Dragon Fans need to make sure they stop and say hi to Toothless because it’s truly what makes this land so immersive.
Spit Fyre Grill
This quick-service restaurant is in a bustling trader’s market and will have Viking fare from across the sea. You can pick up a quick, hearty meal here!
We’re so excited for you to see How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk for yourself in May, and you can bet we’ll be bringing you all the details you need to know for Epic Universe, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
