We are all about holidays dedicated to food. National Donut Day? Sign us up! National French Fries Day? We’re heading to McDonald’s to get a large fry just because. There’s even a National Popcorn Day, and we’ll be using that as an excuse to get a new popcorn bucket in Disney World.
Well, just in case you were wondering, today is National Irish Coffee Day — you know that boozy drink that can both warm you up and give you a nice caffeine boost? To celebrate, Raglan Road in Disney Springs invited a renowned San Francisco Irish coffee expert to whip up 12 Irish coffees in just 90 seconds flat — and he’ll be doing it all day!
Yep, if you pop into Raglan Road today, you can see Tony Hernandez of Buena Vista Café in San Francisco whipping up 12 Irish coffees in just a minute and a half throughout the day. Buena Vista Café can boast that it’s the busiest Irish Whiskey bar in the world, and it makes an average of 2,000 (!!!) Irish coffees a day.
Meanwhile, you can also enjoy the day’s deal: “You buy the coffee, we buy the whiskey.” Yep, pay for the coffee, and you can get the whiskey thrown in FOR FREE.
Raglan Road invites you to visit for brunch or dinner today and raise a glass of Irish coffee. The restaurant has three coffee-based cocktails on its daily menu, including The Lost Irish (a traditional mix of coffee, whiskey, sugar, and cream), the Iced Irish (Bushmills original Irish whiskey, butterscotch, Baileys salted caramel, cold brew coffee, and whipped cream), and the Irish Espresso Martini (Slane Irish whiskey, J.F. Hadens espresso liqueur, Guinness simple syrup, and chilled espresso).
Irish coffee traces its origins to 1943 and was invented by Joe Sheridan, a chef at Foynes Airbase in County Limerick, Ireland. The drink was meant to keep transatlantic passengers warm with a blend of hot coffee, sugar, Irish whiskey, and cream. Now, it’s a classic drink that you can find all over the world.
