Ready to set sail on a Disney Cruise adventure?
The Disney Treasure is the Disney Cruise Line’s newest fleet ship and is set to launch in December of this year. We already know A TON about special offerings the new ship will have, such as a Haunted Mansion lounge, and we’re very excited about the premiere of “Disney The Tale of Moana”, a new show exclusive to the Disney Treasure! So what do we know about this new experience? Let’s check it out!
“Disney The Tale of Moana” is set to make its debut at The Walt Disney Theatre onboard the Disney Treasure when the ship sets sail in December 2024. It will be a musical that retells the coming-of-age story of Moana. The new stage production promises to “immerse audiences in a transformational adventure across land and sea” with elements of Pacific Islands cultures, according to Disney. So what else do we know? Here are three clues about what you can expect to see with this new show!
A MASSIVE Puppet!
The first stage adaptation of Moana is confirmed to use puppets! Per Disney, “Disney Live Entertainment creative director of puppetry and articulation, Jeff Conover, teamed up with master puppet designer Michael Curry, whose creations are featured in Disney’s Tony Award-winning musical “The Lion King” on Broadway,” to create Te Kā, a huge fiery puppet larger than anything before on the Disney Cruise Line.
A NEW Song
The show will feature many favorites from the Grammy-Award-winning soundtrack, but will also feature a new song! “Warrior Face” will have the demigod Maui teach Moana “how to face her fears before entering the Realm of the Monsters to face Tamatoa.” Other songs in the show include “You’re Welcome,” “We Know The Way”, and “How Far I’ll Go.”
Motunui
According to Disney, the new show will start in the present day on “the fictional island of Motunui, in a set design filled with hints of brilliant cultures of the Pacific Islands that will appear throughout the show.” The narrator, the spirit of Gramma Tala, sets the scene while we learn how the ocean chooses Moana through song and dance. The show will also feature songs sung in different languages, including Tuvaluan, Tokelauan, and Samoan.
Stage Transformations
During the iconic “How Far I’ll Go” number, The Walt Disney Theatre will physically transform from the island of Motunui into the open ocean! Disney has teased what that transformation will look like, citing twinkling stars and a giant glowing manta ray that represents the spirit of Gramma Tala.
