Things happen in Disney World, so it’s always best to be prepared for those unexpected situations.
Sometimes rides close (often due to weather). Sometimes, there are transportation issues that could affect your day. There are occasional glitches with technology, including with the My Disney Experience app. Even entertainment can have issues arise, resulting in cancellations or delays. Well, one of our favorite Disney World parades was delayed recently — and we’re going to tell you what happened.
We were in Magic Kingdom when we heard an announcement about the earlier performance of the Festival of Fantasy parade (which is probably one of our favorite Disney parades). The announcement said that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the 12PM parade would be delayed.
No biggie, though. For those sticking around Magic Kingdom, there’s another parade at 3PM, so you can always catch it again later, right? But here’s what was most interesting about the delay. Nine minutes later, the Festival of Fantasy parade began making its way down its path. So the delay was VERY temporary.
So the key lesson we learned here? If you hear an announcement that the parade has been delayed, stick around, especially if you’ve already staked out your viewing spot. It’s likely you won’t have to wait long for the parade to begin. You can ask nearby Cast Members if they know how long the delay might be, and they could have information that helps inform your decision about whether to stay or go.

Note that if a parade is canceled, you’ll get a different announcement saying as such — then you can just go about your day and try to catch the next parade time (which you can check for in the My Disney Experience app).
