The WRONG Time to Ride the Disney World Train

The Walt Disney World Railroad recently reopened in Magic Kingdom after being closed for more than four years!

The train was forced to close so that construction could begin on TRON Lightcycle / Run, but now it is officially open for guests once again. It’s one of our favorite experiences in Magic Kingdom, especially since it takes you all around the park — giving you a prime view of other attractions, construction projects, and more. But, we think we may have figured out the exact WRONG time to take the train in Disney World!

The Walt Disney World Railroad is a great way to check out all of Magic Kingdom while enjoying a leisurely ride — unless you time it wrong! We were recently enjoying our journey on the train, when we realized we made a grave mistake by hopping on it at the exact wrong time.

What was the issue, you ask? We happened to get STUCK, but not because of a ride malfunction. Instead, we were held up by the Festival of Fantasy Parade! The train has to stop at Main Street, U.S.A. to let the parade cross through backstage.

An announcement came over the train speakers informing passengers that we’d be holding for a few minutes until all the floats had the chance to pass over the tracks. Eventually, we started moving again, and all in all we were stopped for about 15 minutes total. We did get to see the tail end of the parade, though!

There it is!

The Festival of Fantasy Parade takes place in Magic Kingdom twice daily at 12PM and 3PM — though showtimes are always subject to change! If you don’t want to potentially get stuck on your train ride, try to avoid getting in line around these times.
