Why No One Was In Frontierland in Magic Kingdom This Morning

There are a few Magic Kingdom attractions that aren’t open right now, including Splash Mountain and the Walt Disney World Railroad.

But earlier this morning during a visit to the most magical park, our reporter noticed that another popular ride was not available for guests.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reportedly did not open with Magic Kingdom this morning at 9AM.

The popular roller coaster was temporarily unavailable this morning, so guests were directed to different rides around the park. We asked a Cast Member if the closure was expected to last for a long time, and they told us that it should be up and running again soon.

Sure enough, just a little while later Big Thunder was back to running like normal.

Guests headed to the attraction and there was quickly a size-able line, especially since the other major Frontierland attraction is unavailable right now. Splash Mountain is in the middle of a month-long closure for refurbishments.

Temporary ride closures happen pretty frequently in Disney World, and unfortunately they can often happen right at park opening time. So if you’re heading into a park early and find out that the ride you wanted to go on is not available, make sure you’ve got a plan B. Head to a different ride, and keep checking the My Disney Experience app throughout the day to see when your first choice opens back up.

As soon as you see a wait time on the My Disney Experience app for the ride you wanted, that means it’s open again and you can go ride it! Usually, you can still get on with a lower wait time if you’re at the attraction close to when it re-opens.
