Review: The Butterflies on Disney World’s New Cupcake Look a Little TOO Real 😳

It’s that time of the year — time to celebrate all the great mothers out there!

Heading to Disney World for Mother’s Day?

If you just so happen to be treating your mom by taking her to Disney World this weekend, then you’re going to want to check out some of the limited-time Mother’s Day treats in the parks and resorts. We’ve tested out a lot of them so far, and now we’re about to try one more!

Over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, there’s a brand-new cupcake at Capt. Cook’s! The Mother’s Day Butterfly Cupcake is here from May 7th-9th to celebrate the special occasion.

What’s it made of? It’s chocolate cupcake with passionfruit custard topped with whipped icing! Now, you’ll want to note that both the packaging and the My Disney Experience app describe this treat incorrectly. It is not a white chocolate cake, and there’s definitely no raspberry mousse filling!

Here it is!

So let’s dig into this thing! The cake is rich, moist, and super chocolatey. We really enjoyed it! We also loved how it paired with that passionfruit custard.

It’s got a great flavor combo!

Now, let’s talk about that custard! It has a thick consistency and tastes oh-so-good. We’re talkin’ tart, creamy, and viscous. YUM! FYI, it does taste more like pineapple than passionfruit to us, but it was still delicious.

Our least favorite part of this treat was the icing. It’s plain and super sweet — almost like a grocery store birthday cake. And as for the butterflies…well, they’re pretty (and SUPER real looking), but they’re a strange sugar and starch combo! We’ll give Disney some points for the glitter, though. 😉

Kids probably won’t enjoy this one due to the strong taste of the custard. But if you like chocolate cake and tart, tropical fruit flavors, you’ll want to give this a try!
