A huge piece of Frontierland recently closed for good, Big Thunder Mountain is still closed for a lengthy refurbishment, and now, another popular Magic Kingdom attraction has hung up the “closed” sign. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has officially closed for a huge reimagining, and we’re taking you with us to see what has changed already!
Listen, I’ve been to Magic Kingdom COUNTLESS times, but when I tell you I’ve never seen construction at this level before, I mean it. And guess what? It’s about to get MORE intense.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Magic Kingdom has THREE big construction projects happening right now — Piston Peak, Villains Land, and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment, but there’s another one that’s about to be added to the list. If you love this Tomorrowland attraction as much as we do, you’ve got to ride it in the next week before it changes forever!
Just a few days ago, a popular Magic Kingdom attraction went under refurbishment for a short period of time, with a set reopening date of July 26th.

So we headed to the park bright and early to check out the ride to see what had changed…and found that it wasn’t open just yet. We thought it was just a minor delay, but let’s just say, we’ve since been proven VERY wrong.
There’s nothing worse than getting hyped for a ride at Disney World only to find out it’s closed when you get there.
Former Muppets Courtyard blocked
Some fan-favorite attractions are going behind construction walls in 2025 and won’t be back until sometime in 2026. Whether you’re planning your next trip or just trying to stay ahead of the changes, here’s what we know so far about the upcoming closures at Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A couple of these are big, so if they’re on your must-do list, you’ll want to plan around them.

Matterhorn Bobsleds has already been closed for just over two months, but now, we finally know when it’ll reopen in the park. If you’re visiting in July, you’re in luck!

In 2025, there will be several rides that are seeing a refurbishment this year at Magic Kingdom. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently receiving an overhaul and is scheduled to reopen in 2026. Astro Orbiter also closed earlier this year and is set to reopen this summer. Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin has recently been added to that list as well so here is what we know about this ride update.
Disney World is undergoing some pretty intense refurbishments and adding some massive construction projects over the next few years.
Animal Kingdom construction
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for refurbishment through at least the beginning of 2026, Dinoland U.S.A. has begun its transition into Pueblo Esperanza, It’s Tough to Be A Bug just closed to make way for Zootopia: Better Zoogether, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Disney more recently announced another massive closure that will take at least a year.
It’s not uncommon for Disney rides to be closed during your vacation.
Pirates of the Caribbean Disneyland
Disneyland Resort and Disney World are home to dozens of rides each, and many of those rides are a few decades old. For safety, attractions must get regularly scheduled refurbishments to keep them up to date. Thankfully, you can check the calendars online to see which rides will be closed during your trip!

Cinderella Castle
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure just officially opened, but Country Bear Jamboree is still down for refurbishment. Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade just closed permanently to become a new Disney Vacation Club lounge, and Tortuga Tavern is now seasonally closed in Adventureland. Seems like a long list, right?
