Disney’s Animal Kingdom is known for having some of the best dining options out of the four theme parks, but we can’t leave out Animal Kingdom Lodge!
Disney World hotels are often home to some great dining options as well, especially Deluxe hotels like Animal Kingdom Lodge. When we heard that there were two new menu options over at the Maji Pool Bar in the Kidani Village section of the hotel, we knew we had to give them a try. Our verdict? Let’s just say that there’s a reason we’re already planning our trip back to get them again!
First up on our list was the Spiced Date and Goat Cheese Flatbread for $12.79, which is made with Suya Spice, Sweet Dates, and Creamy Goat Cheese. The chili flakes on this made us a little concerned about the spice level at first, but the spice is so well tamed by the tomato sauce, the cheese, the caramelized onions, and the arugula. You get a pleasant lingering burn after each bite, so if you’re completely spice-adverse, this won’t be for you, but we’d put it at about a medium heat level.
The goat cheese is strong enough that it does pleasantly linger on the palate afterwards, and since the tomato sauce doesn’t overpower it, it ends up being a perfectly balanced bite between the acidity and richness of the goat cheese, and then the caramelized onions, and then the spice. We do recommend having a beverage nearby, though, so keep that in mind!
You can also grab the Spiced Chili Nachos for $10.99, which are Tortilla Chips topped with Chili, Melted Cheese, Avocado Crema, and Kachumbari. These were incredible! Kachumbari is a form of African-style salsa with peppers, onion, tomato, and herbs, and it adds a very light, fresh taste to the chili.
The chili is not overly spicy but does have plenty of spices that bring an African spin to nachos that works in every way. The avocado cream is creamy and delicious, and since the queso is layered underneath the chili, every bite has both chili and queso, which is delightful. This is a great poolside snack, and if you get a bite with everything, you’ve got a fantastic mix of flavors.

We ate there for the first time a few months ago and were so surprised at how good it was – especially for a pool bar! It’s a hidden gem among all the other wonderful food at AK Lodge.
