A brand new hotel is coming to Disney World, and we couldn’t be more excited. Lakeshore Lodge is being built where Disney’s River Country water park once sat, finally making use of that long-abandoned space near Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.
We’ve been keeping an eye on construction over at the new resort, and Disney has been dropping a few details. Well, now, Disney has revealed new details about The Wetlands, the outdoor recreation area you’ll find just beyond the hotel’s lobby.
Lakeshore Lodge’s The Wetlands will be a place where guests can find both fun and relaxation. One part of The Wetlands will be for kiddos, where they can “become part of nature’s story through whimsical wet and dry play areas inspired by the music and storytelling of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Pocahontas.” The play area will be inspired by the lyrics “the heron and the otter are my friends” from “Colors of the Wind.”
Heron Shores will also bring exploration and hands-on play to kids with climbing features, while Otter Springs will come to life with interactive water fun. The lazy Daydream River will be where guests can sit back and relax on an innertube while the river carries them through The Wetlands.
Lakeside Lagoon is in the center of The Wetlands. This is a zero-entry pool for guests of all ages. It will include a spiral waterslide. A leisure pool will be located on the opposite side of Lakeshore Lodge, complete with a whirlpool spa and a view of Magic Kingdom’s fireworks at night.
There’s also a scenic path that runs through the recreation area that will uncover facts about the plants and flowers surrounding them. Disney also teased a special plaque that honors a “beloved historic attraction that once stood on this very spot.” Disney, you tease!
Lakeshore Lodge will officially open in summer 2027, but until then, we’ll keep an eye out for more updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Even though my son in 15 is still might have to book this place so he can see the otter splash pad.
Not really my vibe – looks hot hot hot.
Reminds me of the way Aulani is laid out.
This looks so wonderful that it is obviously a very expensive deluxe resort; I can’t help but wonder if they will add some value resorts eventually. I think people will definitely use them as there are so many good people who love Disney but have limited incomes for one reason or another. As a medically educated person on a disability level income, I can’t visit Disney World near as often as I would like.
