If there’s a new snack at Disneyland, you can best believe we’re running over to try it!
Disneyland Park is home to MANY tasty treats, and we’re always excited when it adds to its pantheon of interesting theme park food. Frontierland’s Golden Horseshoe is an underappreciated quick-service restaurant that serves some of those classic eats with a menu that gets shaken up quite often. It’s latest iteration features a classic Disney treat with a twist, and it’s safe to say we have some thoughts…
The Golden Horseshoe is located deep within Frontierland, a few steps from the Rivers of America, and offers tons of American fare like chicken tenders, floats, and ice cream desserts. Best of all, you get to enjoy these eats inside an old-timey saloon where Walt Disney and his wife celebrated their 30th anniversary with the debut performance of the original Golden Horseshoe Revue.
Recently, we visited to check out a new menu addition — Mini Corn Dogs with Fries! This Disney classic is now available at the Golden Horseshoe for $10.99, and you can tack on a side of sweet chili sauce for an extra $1.39.
The corn dog batter was sweet with a golden brown, crunchy outside, and the hot dog had a salty, savory, and meaty flavor. We would’ve preferred a cheese sauce, but the sweet chili sauce was decent. It was heavier on the sweet side rather than being spicy — so folks terrified of spice could try this without worrying too much. Still, this snack would’ve scored so many more points if it only came with some fan-favorite plastic cheese — or any cheese!
The biggest complaint we have is the portion size. If these were priced like a kids’ meal or if Disney upped the portion size, we’d be more inclined to get them again. As is, our meal only came with six, while similar offerings at Disney World have several more! And we were seriously lacking in the fry department as well.
While many folks give the victory to Disneyland over Disney World when it comes to the food, we have to say that Disney World takes the victory in this battle of mini corn dogs. We’d rather get them from Casey’s Corner in Magic Kingdom or full-sized corn dogs from Corn Dog Castle at California Adventure or Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs in Downtown Disney.
