With so many popular cruise lines to choose from today, guests are weighing not only who has the best ship, but also who has the best private island.

Lookout Cay
Disney Cruise Line – Castaway Cay (Bahamas)
Castaway Cay is Disney Cruise Line’s longtime private island, and for many cruisers, it sets the gold standard. One of the biggest advantages here is how inclusive the experience feels. Your food is included, and even the adults-only Serenity Bay area comes at no extra charge (which is rare in the cruise world). If you bring your own snorkeling gear, you can snorkel for free, adding even more value to your beach day.
There’s no beverage package to use here, so alcoholic drinks are an additional cost, but overall, Castaway Cay is refreshingly low-pressure when it comes to upcharges. The island is extremely family-friendly, with classic Disney service, character sightings, and an easy-to-navigate layout. It’s the kind of place where you can step off the ship and immediately relax without planning every detail in advance.
Best for: Disney fans, families, and cruisers who want an inclusive, simple, and stress-free beach day.

Mount Rustmore at Castaway Cay
Disney Cruise Line – Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point
Disney’s newest private destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, offers a noticeably different vibe from Castaway Cay. While it’s not a private island, as it is located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, it is a private Disney destination. It’s brand new and beautifully designed. On the island, families will find all kinds of unique activities. Pink sand beaches and activities will lead them to discover the“magic of Bahamian storytelling alongside favorite Disney characters.” Guests will find a family beach on the east side of the island, with recreation and other amenities. There are very few upcharges, making it another strong option for cruisers who don’t want to feel nickel-and-dimed throughout the day. It’s calm, scenic, and perfect for unwinding. There is also an interactive family water play area with slides, water drums, and more. Toddlers even have their own dedicated space. Lookout Cay hosts its own adult-exclusive beach (north of the family area) by the name of Serenity Bay. It includes a dedicated dining area and six private cabanas available to reserve, and is exclusive to guests 18 years of age and older.
Best for: Beach lovers, relaxation-focused cruisers, and guests who want a laid-back, peaceful island day.

Royal Caribbean – Perfect Day at CocoCay
If Castaway Cay is about simplicity, Perfect Day at CocoCay is about going big. This is Royal Caribbean’s private island, and a lot is happening here. Think massive waterparks, towering slides, huge pools, a helium balloon ride, and multiple beaches. It feels more like a theme park meets beach resort than a traditional private island. That said, many of the headline attractions require paid passes. Adults-only Hideaway Beach typically starts around $40 per person, and Coco Beach Club can run $120 or more per person. While there are complimentary areas to enjoy, maximizing your experience here often requires planning and budgeting ahead of time. CocoCay is incredibly fun, but it’s not the most low-key option on this list. It’s ideal for cruisers who want nonstop activity and don’t mind paying extra for premium experiences.
Best for: Thrill-seekers, families with teens, and cruisers who want action-packed fun from morning to evening.

Perfect Day at CocoCay
Royal Caribbean – Labadee (Haiti – Currently Closed)
Labadee is technically a private port rather than a private island, but it has long been one of Royal Caribbean’s most scenic destinations. Historically, it offered a wide range of activities, including zip lines, parasailing, beaches, and organized excursions. It’s especially known for its stunning coastal views and dramatic mountain backdrops. One major perk for Royal Caribbean loyalists: the cruise line’s drink package typically worked here, adding extra value for guests who had already purchased one onboard. While Labadee is currently closed, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for any reopening updates.
Best for: Adventure seekers and cruisers who love active shore days.

Norwegian Cruise Line – Great Stirrup Cay (Bahamas)
Great Stirrup Cay offers a balanced, middle-ground experience. Norwegian has upgraded the island with pier access, making arrival easier and more convenient. Food is included, and there’s a good variety of beach areas to choose from, depending on whether you want a livelier atmosphere or something more relaxed. There’s a mix of included relaxation and optional paid activities, but the upcharges here generally feel less aggressive than some competitors. It strikes a nice balance between offering fun extras and keeping the day affordable if you choose to skip them.
Best for: Cruisers who want a mix of relaxation and activities without heavy upcharging.

Carnival Cruise Line – Half Moon Cay (Bahamas)
Half Moon Cay, Carnival Cruise Line’s island, feels like a throwback to the traditional private island experience. Compared to some of the mega-developed waterpark-style destinations, this island has minimal development and a more natural, scenic feel. Food is included, typically served in a laid-back BBQ setup. Optional excursions like horseback riding on the beach and water sports are available, but they don’t dominate the experience. Instead, the focus is on soft sand, clear water, and a classic beach day vibe.
Best for: Cruisers who prefer a relaxed, scenic beach day without heavy theming or crowds.
