We’re about to jump into spring in Disney World, which means summer is right around the corner. Now, summer means hurricane season, which generally lasts from June through the end of November.
Now, we’ve seen our share of hurricanes in Disney World (and we’ve seen hurricanes that have closed the parks several times). As you may know, every year brings a new round of names for hurricanes, and this year’s list includes a lot of familiar names, at least for Disney fans.
So let’s take a look at this year’s list of hurricanes, which we have thanks to the National Hurricane Center.. We’re going to start with Arthur, which automatically makes us think of The Sword in the Stone. Of course, this movie is about the boy who eventually becomes King Arthur. Also, sidenote: this movie is HORRIBLY underrated.
The next hurricane will be named Bertha. Now, that name will sound familiar to Jungle Cruise fans, because one of the Jungle Cruise boats is named Big Bertha (although it’s Brr Bertha when the Jungle Cruise becomes the Jingle Cruise for the holidays)!
The following hurricane will be named Cristobal, and the one after that will be Dolly. Now, we immediately thought of Dolly Parton, but Dolly is also the name of a character we first see in Toy Story 3 — she’s one of Bonnie’s dolls!
Edouard is the next hurricane name, followed by Fay. Yes, Fay immediately reminded us of Morgana Le Fay from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. But there’s also Morgie le Fay from the Descendants franchise. After that, we’ll have a storm named Gonzalo, followed by one named Hanna. Yes, it’s not spelled the same way, but if you did NOT think of Hannah Montana, are you really a Disney fan?
The next names on the list are Isaias and Josephine. After that are Kyle and Leah. Leah, of course, is a nod (at least for us) to Princess Leia of Star Wars fame. However, the next hurricane name is also that of a Disney character, Marco, and of course, we’re thinking of Marco from the Disney XD series Star vs. The Forces of Evil.
The next hurricane hits us in the feels because it’s Nana, which is also the name of the Darlings’ dog in Peter Pan. In fact, there are TWO Peter Pan names in this year’s list (and we’ll get to the second a little bit later).
Omar might make you scratch your head, wondering where you’ve heard the name from. But if you’ve watched Sofia the First, you’ll know the name from the “Pin the Blame on the Genie” episode of that series. Yes, that’s a deep dive. Paulette is also sort of a deep dive, because that’s the name of one of the Bimbettes who are fawning over Gaston in Beauty and the Beast.
The next hurricane name is Rene, which reminds us of René Auberjonois, the voice of Louis the Chef in The Little Mermaid. Sally is next on the list, and of course, we automatically think of Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, the tightrope walker seen in a stretching room portrait in the Haunted Mansion is also named Sally (Sally Slater).
Teddy is also a nod to The Nightmare Before Christmas, as in Vampire Teddy. The next hurricane is Vicky, followed by Wilfred. Now that makes us think of Disney Legend Wilfred Jackson, the man who worked for Walt and figured out how to synchronize animation with music by using a metronome, an innovation that first appeared in Steamboat Willy. He went on to work on dozens of Disney’s classic animated films like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Saludos Amigos, Melody Time, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Lady and the Tramp.
So those are all the hurricane names we’ll see in 2026, although we don’t really know how far into the names we’ll get. We’re not entirely sure what the 2026 hurricane season will bring, although forecasters are already in the process of trying to figure that out.
As always, we’ll keep you updated on the weather in Disney World, including potential hurricanes, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
