Well, it’s really happening. EVERYTHING (okay, maybe not everything, but a LOT) is changing in Magic Kingdom. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is changing, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is changing, Villains Land is being built, and a big Cars expansion is underway.

Well, Cinderella Castle just HAD to jump on the change bandwagon, too. Disney previously announced that the castle would be losing its pink color scheme and revert back to a color scheme similar to its original silvers and blues. Well, we’ve got big news: the repainting of the castle has already started!
We visited Magic Kingdom today and noticed that Disney did not waste ANY time in starting to get rid of the pink color of the castle. It’s already starting to look drastically different. We don’t know a lot about painting castles (except they use a paint-by-number technique), but it looks like the old paint is being stripped off to make way for what we assume will be primer and then the actual paint colors.

You can also see where more pink has disappeared on this part of the castle. From what we understand, the moat around the castle will also be eventually drained so Disney can get the equipment it needs close to the castle. Also, cranes will be lowered and out of sight by noon each day, so you can still get some castle photos, but the castle might not look quite like itself (or like its new self) just yet.

Note that as a result of the work being done on the castle, some changes have been made to three Magic Kingdom entertainment offerings: Let The Magic Begin, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire, and Happily Ever After. Be sure to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app for showtimes and updates.
Disney has not yet revealed when the painting might be complete, except that it’s expected to be finished this year, so you can expect to those castle photos to look a little different for a while. We’ll be keeping an eye on construction progress, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
