It’s time to rev those engines and prepare your stomach, because Flo’s V8 Cafe just got a NEW menu, and we are trying it ALL! Eight new menu items just arrived at this popular Disney California Adventure restaurant, and we grabbed one of each to see if they are worth the money on your next trip.
You probably won’t want to read this on an empty stomach, so grab a snack and let’s check out the new menu items! Start your engines!
Flo’s V8 Cafe is located in Cars Land in Disney California Adventure. It is inspired by the mom-and-pop diners you can find along Route 66. The restaurant resembles a giant air filter! The dining room is fashioned after a showroom and serves as a museum of artifacts from the legendary race car driver, Doc Hudson. Let’s dig into the new menu items!
First up, we have the “Big Dipper” Cheeseburger for $15.99. It is made with a beef patty, American cheese, B&B pickles, and caramelized onions on a toasted bun with pepperoncini cheese sauce. You can choose Cuties Mandarin Oranges or fries as your side. This burger has no right to taste as good as it did.
The cheese sauce has a kick and some tang that pair well with the burger. The burger was well-cooked, and we loved the crunch from the B&B pickles. The caramelized onions added a much-needed bit of earthiness to the dish. We definitely think the cheese sauce was the star! It does have a bit of spice, though. We want all our burgers served with gooey cheese sauce from now on!
Next up is the Winner’s Circle Chicken and Waffle for $17.49. It is crispy, golden-fried chicken and a buttermilk waffle with whipped butter and maple syrup. If you are looking for chicken and waffles, this will definitely scratch that itch, but it isn’t anything super special.
The waffle is good, but it is standard for what you will find at most Disneyland quick service spots. The chicken was crispy, and the breading was tasty. However, there just isn’t enough flavor in the dish. We got a subtle kick, but we wish there was a bit more to this dish. It didn’t wow us as much as the other dishes, but it is still tasty and a solid option!
Moving on to the Tuned-Up Chicken Fenders for $14.49. This is crispy chicken fenders tossed in a choice of sauce. We opted for the teriyaki, but you can also get them with buffalo sauce.
We were impressed with how crispy the chicken was, even after being drenched in sauce. The teriyaki sauce was delicious. It had a bit of tang and fruity after-notes. Plus, the sesame seeds added a bit of texture and flavor. Loved the sauce and the chicken’s crispiness!
Next, we tried the Fillmore Groovy Greens for $11.99. You can also get the salad with Crispy Chicken Fenders for $14.79. The salad features romaine, kale, bean and corn salad, cucumbers, tomatoes, crispy quinoa, toasted sunflower seeds, and zesty dressing. Y’all, this is our favorite! We might even put this up there as one of our favorite healthy options at Disneyland quick service restaurants.
This is a beautiful summer salad. The dressing has a citrus flavor, is light, and helps bring out the flavors of the other toppings. We thought the sunflower seeds and crispy quinoa added a wonderful crunch and earthiness, while the beans helped make this dish feel hearty. The cucumbers, tomatoes, and edamame were fresh. This is a great respite from fatty theme park food, and we love how all the flavors come together! Delicious, and if you are looking for a bit more protein, you can also add chicken fenders to the dish.
We also grabbed the Fast Track Loaded Fries for $11.99. This dish is fries topped with hearty chili, pepperoncini cheese sauce, sliced pepperoncini, and diced onions. This comes with the same sauce as the burger, which was a star of that dish.
The chili is thick, chunky, hearty, and packed with flavor. The pepperoncinis add a great bit of spice to this dish, along with the cheese sauce. We wish there were a bit more fries, though. The spice is tangy, but not too overpowering. It does linger a bit, so if you don’t like spice at all, you probably won’t like this dish.
The last new food item is the Mini Buckwheat Waffles for $8.49. It is two mini buckwheat waffles served with sugar-free syrup. These waffles feature Lightning McQueen, which is super fun for kids (and adults!).
These have a slightly earthy, nutty vanilla flavor. You can tell they aren’t buttermilk waffles, but it isn’t a startling difference. Once you add the syrup, it is even harder to tell they’re not just the classic buttermilk waffles. We think these are a bit overpriced, but it’s also hard to beat waffles as a meal!
Now onto the drinks! We started with the Start Your Engine Cold Brew for $7.29. This drink is Joffrey’s Shakin’ Jamaican Cold Brew with caramel premium syrup, a swirl of caramel, housemade caramel-flavored cream, and a caramel sauce drizzle.
This cold brew is PACKED with caramel flavor! It is very sweet and very caramely. The drink is creamy and has a sweet factor that reminds us of a melted Caramel Frappuccino. If you like sweet and creamy, we think this cold brew is a contender as one of our favorites at Disneyland.
We also got the Stop Sign Cream Soda Pop for $7.79. This is Sprite with housemade strawberry and coconut cream topped with housemade strawberry cream and strawberry-flavored flakes. The drink is well-carbonated and creamy. The cream helps cut through the flavoring and bring some balance to the drink overall. The flakes add an interesting texture, but they tasted too artificial for us. It was a bit messy, but we thought it was a fun cream soda with a lot of foamy texture and strong strawberry flavor.
Overall, we are SO excited about the new menu at Flo’s V8 Cafe. The restaurant took a risk, and we think it mostly paid off. The Filmore Groovy Greens easily topped our list as the favorite, but we also really enjoyed all the other offerings. The new menu has some great options, and we think it is definitely worth a stop!
