Disney's MAJOR Magic Kingdom Villains Land Expansion Just Got a BIG Update

EVERYONE, STAY CALM! After years of begging and LOTS of patience, Villains Land in Magic Kingdom is finally taking shape.

The massive expansion plan isn’t the only change coming to Magic Kingdom, though! As the Villains are planning their exciting entrance, Lightning McQueen and Mater are revving their engines for the brand new Cars Land. We’ve been keeping our eyes peeled for updates, and the newest construction photos have us over the moon!

In 2024, Disney announced that a Villains Land is coming to Magic Kingdom, and we’ve barely slept since. The anticipation, excitement, and nerves have been a lot to handle. Disney has remained fairly tight-lipped about the expansion, outside of sharing inspiration for the area.

Now, thanks to Bioreconstruct over on X, we can finally see some construction updates on the upcoming land and Piston Peak. This area being cleared is located behind it’s a small world and the Haunted Mansion!

From what we’ve learned, this area is going to be massive, stretching from this area to behind Big Thunder Mountain. This is a rough drawing of where the new areas will go, along with potential changes to the parade route in the park.

This area was previously home to the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, which closed for the construction of Piston Peak and Villains Land. There are lots of construction vehicles still clearing up the land in preparation for the villains.

We’ve been keeping our eyes on the construction of Villains Land, specifically because Disney hasn’t given us a ton of information on it or even an opening timeline. We know that this new area will be home to two major attractions, along with dining and shopping experiences.

Once the land is fully cleared, we’re expecting some more permits regarding building on the land! We’ve been keeping our eyes on any permits filed by Walt Disney Imagineering, looking for hints or clues as to what is coming.

Disney has been more forthcoming with details regarding Piston Peak! They haven’t given us a timeline just yet, but they have given details on the Rally Racers attraction, a new character coming to the area, and more. We’re operating on the assumption that Piston Peak will open before Villains Land, but the close construction makes us wonder if they’re on a more similar timeline than we think.
