Get ready for some mayhem in summer 2026 because the Muppets will have officially taken over the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster! Disney announced Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets back in November 2024, and we’ve been watching updates on this retheme like a hawk.
While we’re sad to see the original version of this ride go, we are THRILLED that the Muppets will have a new home at Hollywood Studios. Ahead of the ride’s official reopening, Disney has filed another permit to install set elements at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster!
Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new permit to install set elements at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The permit lists Jon Richards Company, FL, as the contractor performing the work — a company we’ve seen on previous permits for this project. They primarily work in set design and lighting, so we’re excited to see what changes will come once the ride officially reopens.
We previously reported that the pre-show for the Aerosmith version of the ride was closed, so this permit could be for installing the set elements for the new pre-show or the ride itself, which will feature Electric Mayhem recording a jam session in the studio once used by Aerosmith. With that pre-show now closed, Disney may work on that part of the ride first.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is set to completely close on March 2nd, with the new Muppets version of the ride set to open in summer 2026. That’s a pretty short window for such a huge ride change, but the ride will be closed for at least a couple of months before it reopens. With the short window, we’re not expecting major changes to the ride itself — just the overall theming.
The new version of the ride will have G-Force Records being taken over by Scooter’s uncle, J.P. Grosse. Electric Mayhem is lined up to headline a huge Hollywood concert, but they’re getting so into their jam session in the studio that Scooter has to convince them to get to the stage on time. We’re expecting a race through iconic Hollywood locations to help make that happen, along with some killer tunes by Electric Mayhem!
We’ll be keeping an eye out for even more Disney permits you need to know about. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
