Disney World is undergoing some pretty intense construction right now, and not just in one park — we’re talking about major construction in THREE out of the four parks.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios, in particular, has TWO new lands on the way — the former Muppets Courtyard is turning into a new Monsters, Inc. Land, and Animation Courtyard is getting a massive overhaul and becoming The Walt Disney Studios. This will include a new attraction called The Magic of Disney Animation, a new playground is on the way, and an updated version of the “Disney Jr. Play and Dance!” show will be part of the land as well. However, it seems that lots of Disney fans aren’t super confident that Disney will deliver on the promises in their concept art, and we’ll be honest — we get why.
When we recently talked about how the current state of the new The Walt Disney Studios land looks during construction and compared it to the concept art on our Instagram, follower @blake_koala shared a comment that said, “I’ll be amazed if it’s actually a one for one of the concept art 😅” Here’s the thing, Blake…we totally see where your concern is coming from.
He’s not alone either! Far from it, in fact. There are lots of Disney fans who don’t have a lot of confidence in Disney delivering on what their concept art looks like because, in the past, we’ve seen a LOT of discrepancy between original concept art and what actually happens. Listen, that’s okay, we get it! Things change, especially during construction, but after seeing what happened with CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza specifically, we 100% understand the concern.
Below, you’ll see some of the concept art Disney released for Communicore Plaza in EPCOT. It looked lively, bright, and fun with lots of seating.
Now, we’ll give them this one, because CommuniCore Plaza did come out looking pretty similar to the art! The stage is home to a live show throughout the day (¡Celebración Encanto!, which is lots of fun for kids), and then you’ll still notice music playing at night, but it’s usually a DJ instead of a live band, which we would love to see more of. However, there isn’t much seating to sit and watch the shows, and shade is VERY limited, which doesn’t feel super well thought out.
However, CommuniCore Hall? Well…that’s a different story. Take a look at the concept art below…
…and then look at how it appeared on opening day, which, to be fair, was WITHOUT a festival in the park.
There was seating, banners…and that was about it. It was a HUGE disappointment to many people on opening day, even knowing that it was intended to be a flex space for festivals. We certainly HAVE seen it come alive for festivals, especially this year, but even still, a lot of fans feel it should be something more (even when festivals aren’t going on), especially since it took SO many years to build.
With all that being said, we’re not surprised people are concerned about whether The Walt Disney Studios area will live up to the concept art. We’ll just have to wait and see, but you can guarantee we’ll be keeping you updated the whole time, so stay tuned to DFB!
