A brand-new land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and we can’t wait to experience it.
That land will be themed around Disney’s Monsters, Inc. movies and TV show, and will finally bring Monstropolis to life in a whole new way. That’s right — Monstropolis is coming to Disney World, and we have a feeling it’s going to seriously blow us all away. Here’s why.
The story of the land will pick up after the events of the popular Pixar film, and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. Disney shares that here, “you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters” and even visit the Laugh Factory!
We’re pretty confident Disney is trying to “wow” us with this one — and it’s all because of Epic Universe. Essentially, Disney now has to answer to the overwhelmingly positive response Epic Universe has received when it comes to the immersion factor. How do they do that? By creating even more immersion in their parks.
Monsters, Inc. land will feature Disney’s VERY FIRST suspended coaster, which “will put you right in the middle of the monster action. We had the chance to check out a first look at all the Imagineering models for the upcoming coaster at the D23 event, where the ride announcement was made.
In addition to a new roller coaster, Monstropolis will also be home to a new theater show. While we don’t have many details about it, updated concept art shows the Muppet*Vision 3D Theater will be reimagined into “The Glob” theater — a play on the famous Globe Theatre.
Near where Mama Melrose was, it appears to be being converted into Harryhausen’s, the Japanese sushi restaurant featured in the movie.
While Disney hasn’t officially confirmed that this restaurant will be coming to the new Monsters, Inc. Land, the fact that it is in the concept art leads us to believe it is pretty likely we will see a Harryhausen’s in this new area. Could this mean we are getting a sushi restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Only time will tell!
Behind that is the new area where the roller coaster will be. This is currently a backstage area, so Disney is opening up the walls and expanding the whole area.
In June 2025, a map release confirmed that the new land would be expanded to fit the roller coaster. The attraction’s show building will be placed in what has been the Cast Member parking lot located behind the land — so we already know it’s going to be a decently large expansion.
An opening timeline for Monsters, Inc. Land has not yet been announced. Construction on the new land has begun as construction walls have appeared in the area following a phased closure of the Grand Avenue area, which began in May and ended on June 8th, resulting in the permanent closure of Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, Muppet*Vision 3D, and PizzeRizzo.
We can’t wait to learn more about this new land as Disney starts ramping up the transformation. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more.
