If you’ve ever wished your Disney day could last just a little bit longer, there’s good news — it can!

Cinderella Castle at night
Sometimes, rope drop to fireworks just doesn’t feel like enough time at Disney. While Magic Kingdom may officially close at a certain time, there are a few little-known tricks that can help you stretch out the magic after the clock strikes closing time. If you plan your evening the right way, you can enjoy a calmer, quieter version of Magic Kingdom that feels extra special.
One of the biggest secrets to staying in Magic Kingdom after it closes is getting in line for an attraction right before the park officially shuts down. As long as you enter the queue before the posted closing time — yes, even one minute before — Disney will still allow you to ride. That means if Magic Kingdom closes at 10PM and you hop in line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Space Mountain at 9:59 PM, you’re good to go! Cast Members will close the line at the official park closing time, but anyone already inside the queue can still experience the attraction, pending mechanical or weather issues.

Space Mountain
This strategy can seriously maximize your park day, especially if you save a high-wait attraction for the very end of the night. Not only do you squeeze in one more ride, but you’ll often exit the attraction to a much emptier park. There’s something incredibly magical about walking through Fantasyland or Tomorrowland with fewer crowds around, and it can make for some unforgettable photos, too.

Another way to enjoy extra time in Magic Kingdom is by shopping on Main Street, U.S.A., after the park closes. Many of the shops near the front of the park remain open for up to an hour after official closing time, giving guests time to browse, pick up souvenirs, or make those last-minute snack purchases before heading out. This is especially helpful if you don’t want to spend valuable ride time shopping earlier in the day.

Shopping after the park closes can actually make your exit much less stressful. Instead of fighting the immediate crowds rushing toward the buses, Monorail, or ferryboats, you can take your time browsing the Emporium while transportation lines thin out a bit. Plus, Main Street at night has a completely different atmosphere once the crowds begin to clear. The music, lights, and Cinderella Castle glowing in the distance make it one of the most peaceful times to be in Magic Kingdom.

The Emporium
Dining reservations can also help extend your evening in the park. Booking one of the latest reservation times available at a Magic Kingdom restaurant can buy you extra time inside the gates after the park officially closes. Restaurants like Be Our Guest Restaurant, Cinderella’s Royal Table, The Plaza Restaurant, and Liberty Tree Tavern often offer reservations close to park closing, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely meal while most guests are already heading home.

There’s an added bonus to late-night dining reservations, too. When you finish your meal, you may get to stroll through a mostly empty park on your way out. While you won’t be able to hop on attractions after your meal unless you were already in line before closing, you can still soak in the atmosphere for a little longer.

Of course, there’s one important thing to keep in mind when using these “after-hours” tricks: always be respectful of Disney Cast Members. While Disney does allow guests to finish rides, shop, or dine after official park closing, Cast Members are working hard to safely close down the park and finish their shifts. Don’t intentionally linger far beyond closing time or ignore directions from Cast Members when it’s time to exit. A little courtesy goes a long way in keeping the Disney magic alive for everyone.
