According to WFTV9, Disney World has filed 15 lawsuits against Orange County over property tax assessments, claiming excessive taxation.
The lawsuit alleges that the Orange County Property Appraiser, Amy Mercado, failed to comply with Florida law and adopted appraisal practices that resulted in assessments exceeding the market value of the properties.
Disney states that the assessments “do not represent the just value” of the properties and “exceed the market value,” which they argue violates the Florida Constitution. It involves all four parks and several resorts.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the appraiser calculated the following taxable values:
- $621 million for Magic Kingdom
- $794 million for EPCOT
- $639 million for Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- $495 million for Animal Kingdom
- $72.5 million for Blizzard Beach
- $53 million for Typhoon Lagoon
A few resorts were also included at:
- $243 million for Caribbean Beach Resort
- $349 million for Coronado Springs Resort
- $91 million for Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground
- $2.1 million for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which is currently being transformed into a Disney Imagineering space
State law requires Disney to pay the 2025 property tax before it may challenge the tax assessment in court; the tax assessment exceeds $105 million. The Disney Company requests reassessments, refunds of any overpayments, and reimbursement of legal costs.
These types of lawsuits are not uncommon and are often filed annually by Disney World over tax disputes, in which they challenge the methodology and compliance of the appraisals and assert that they do not adhere to professionally accepted practices. The only case that has gone to trial was about the assessment of Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

The tax assessors need to stop playing games very year and perform accurate and fair assessments. It seems every year they try to get everything they can. From my relocation Disney frequently is successful in the lawsuits so why not stop the annual game?
This makes me wonder what it is compared to last years totals.
