Yes, attractions close in Disney World, but they also OPEN, and we have news on an attraction that closed for a recent refurbishment.
We’ve been finding a lot of our favorite attractions going under for refurbishment in Magic Kingdom, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which we have not-so-patiently been waiting to open. This attraction might not be as thrilling as rolling through an Old West town, but when you need a break from your chaotic day, you should head straight here.
Mickey’s PhilharMagic seems to have reopened in Fantasyland a bit earlier than expected. The show is supposed to reopen on November 23rd, but according to the Walt Disney World website, PhilharMagic has been showing operating hours starting on November 18th.
The show wasn’t expected to undergo any major changes, just a routine refurbishment, so we’re thrilled to see it open earlier than expected.
There are a few other rides in the Magic Kingdom that are currently undergoing changes, and we can’t wait to have them back. Big Thunder Mountain has been closed since January 6th, 2025, and Disney has promised new rainbow caverns and a bit of added magic when it reopens. We also saw them replace the track, so we’re thinking it could be a bit smoother when we ride.
Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin is also getting major changes with a new scene, character, targets, blasters, and vehicles. It’s going to feel like a brand-new ride when you can pick up the blaster and easily move it around to score more points than your partner.
The Carousel of Progress hasn’t closed its doors yet, but it will be getting a brand new scene featuring Disney World’s first Walt Disney animatronic. After seeing the one in Disneyland, we’re pretty thrilled to have our own here on the East Coast.
Let’s not forget about the castle! The castle is being repainted in its original gray and blue colors, with added gold accents. Say goodbye to the 50th anniversary colors and welcome home the original.
With all of these changes coming in Magic Kingdom, we’re going to be sharing all the details along the way. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more.

I’m excited that “… Disney has promised new rainbow TAVERNS and a bit of added magic when it reopens.” That WILL be a bit of magic for Disney Adults. It’ll also be nice to have Walt reprise his EPCOT Movie show-and-tell.
