The Disney Cruise Line’s latest ship – the Disney Destiny – is about to set sail for its maiden voyage, and we got a sneak peek at everything the new ship has to offer.
The Destiny features several exciting new experiences, including a heavy Marvel presence, a Hercules stage show, a Pirates of the Caribbean lounge, and the second-ever Haunted Mansion Parlor. Think you’ve already seen everything the Haunted Mansion Parlor has to offer? Think again!
Atmosphere
Before you even walk through the doors of the parlor, you’re greeted by familiar sights like the iconic Haunted Mansion logo and more. You might even notice some familiar faces hanging in portraits on the wall!
Inside, it’s seriously spooky. The lighting changes as you spend time in the parlor — from reds to greens to blues and purples. In the very center of the room is an eerie fish tank — but it’s not only living fish you’ll find in here! Keep an eye out for some skeletons, too.
There’s one main bar area that features a decent amount of seating, along with additional tables, couches, and chairs situated throughout the lounge.
Some of the BEST parts about this lounge are all the hidden details and nods to the Imagineers who made the original Haunted Mansion, like this bust of Rolly Crump.
We’re not kidding when we tell you that you’ll feel at “Tomb Sweet Tomb” when you’re here!
But enough about the lounge — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
The Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Destiny is home to quite a few libations — both alcoholic and nonalcoholic — that you won’t find at its counterpart on the Disney Treasure. We had a great time exploring the menu and trying a whole bunch of new drinks we hadn’t seen on the Treasure!
And now, onto the main event — the food!
Drinks
We hope you’re thirsty, because we’ve got a LOT of drinks to review! First up, let’s start with the Tail of the Rat. This is made with Stoli Elite, Ube Syrup, Fever Tree Sparkling Lemonade, Ube Dusted Lotus, and Edible Violas for $15.
We really liked this! We thought it was much better than anything we had on the Treasure. The ube flavor wasn’t particularly strong (like an earthier vanilla), but it was definitely there. It was a more fun twist on a lemonade — refreshing, and while we couldn’t really taste the vodka, it still felt like an upscale cocktail.
The 13th Hour features La Pulga Reposado, Bacoo Wish Series Tequila, Agave Syrup, Mango & Fresh Lemon Juices, Bitters, and Aperol Foam. This one is $18.
We loved this but expected to hate it! It was interesting, sweet, and surprisingly balanced. The Aperol foam added a surprising bitterness that balanced the sweetness of the mango, but we wished there was more foam to make the drink balanced the entire time we had it, rather than just the first half.
The Chilling Challenge: My Way is made with Cognac, Cointreau Noir, Joto Yuzu Sake, Orange Blossom Foam, and Edible Viola Flowers for $22.
Our first reaction was that this was almost watery; it was light, easy to sip, and very floral. The Cointreau made it slightly fruity, and the presentation was an obvious standout. It was the easiest one to actually drink because it was so light and balanced.
We also tried The Siren: Ethereal Encore. This one is made with Sake, Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice Gin, 1883 Falernum Syrup, Lime, Pineapple, and Grapefruit Juices. This typically comes served in a souvenir mug, which helps the $55 price tag not sting as badly.
Tiki fans, we think you’ll like this one! It was very fruity and juicy. It was on the sweeter side and is the one to get if you’re a mai tai drinker or love a classic tiki drink. The twist is that the liquor is gin and sake, but that wasn’t apparent — it felt more like a classic rum drink. Not a stand-out, but offers something new with familiar flavors.
Another souvenir mug features Poseidon: Tidal Terror, made with Metaxa 5 Stars, 1883 Mango Syrup, Lime Juice, Angostura Bitters, Fever Tree Pineapple Ginger Soda, and Lejay for $65.
We thought this drink was just okay. It mostly tasted like a bitter ginger beer with a bit of sweetness to it. We didn’t get much of the lime, but we did appreciate the mango and pineapple flavors to it, although they were overshadowed by the bitters and ginger soda.
The Restless Bones is made with 1883 Popcorn Syrup, Monin Salted Caramel, and Boundless Butterscotch Potion. You can pick this nonalcoholic drink up for $8.50.
We really liked this! It was like drinking liquid caramel popcorn — which sounds weird, but trust us, it wasn’t. It’s definitely on the sweet side, so if that isn’t your vibe, you can definitely pass on this one. It wasn’t carbonated, but reminded us of cream soda — or even Butterbeer.
The Swinging Wake was our last pick, made with Monin Cherry & Banana Syrups, Orange Juice, and Berry Beware Potion. This one comes in a souvenir cup for $25.
First of all, the souvenir cup is amazing and worth getting this drink for on its own. Which is probably a good thing, because we were a bit disappointed by the drink itself. It tasted like a flat homemade cherry cola. It’s light on the cherry flavor, and there wasn’t any carbonation, which added to the whole “flat soda” vibe.
The sipper lights up and plays a bit of “Grim Grinning Ghosts,” too!
Overall
The Haunted Mansion Parlor is a MUST-SEE on the Disney Destiny. Whether you like to imbibe in an alcoholic drink or otherwise — there are plenty of options on the menu here! Plus, it’s really hard to beat the vibes. Die-hard Disney fans will love taking in all the familiar sights and sounds, not to mention how much fun it is to find all the hidden Easter eggs!
